We had 2 Mudhol hounds for our farmhouse in Ratnagiri. They were the best dogs. Fast, agile, super active, ever alert, very gentle and playful and loyal with us but a nightmare for any trespassers. Miss you, Sandy and Rocky :(

I come from a place where MUDHOL is just 17 kms away. I've seen it hunting. Majority it is being used for rabbit hunting nowadays . The dog is so obedient that after hunting it won't eat the bait it will protect it until the masters arrive.. and never ever try to go near one when you see it's protecting something

Mudol hound coat & snout makes them unsuitable for high altitude. Mountain dogs have double coat, a flatter muzzle, thicker muscles & thick fat layer. Their lungs are better adapted to mountain air . *Notice anything in higher altitudes is stout, shorter, thick built - be it Vegetation, Humans or Animals.*

@@avinashzoom that's a very sturdy breed but not that good temperament wise, so I suppose training them would be really hard. Plus they consider only one dominant person their master mostly(even in a family). I am from Uttrakhand and along with himalian sheep dogs the tibbetian mastiff is common breed found in our villages. But they are strong and sturdy and their stories of fighting/chasing away even tigers is not uncommon. It's also true they don't like hotter regions, have heard a lot of issues in delhi summers from known people. It's one of the oldest dog breed best suited to cold mountain conditions .

We should try and encourage more indigenous breeds. They're much more suited to the Indian climate than the foreign breeds. I've a desi indie doggo and she's extremely smart and trainable. Look at Mudhol's skeletal structure and form. Its desiged to radiate heat. I'm so happy. Namma Karnataka! Jai Hind!

I'm so happy that Indian army included these magnificent breed of dogs finally..!!👌👍 But I really wonder why it took so so long to adopt them..!!🤔 Bcoz as far as I know, these dogs are there in Mudhol and in its surroundings.. In fact my father had got a Mudhol puppy when I was young. That means around 42 yrs ago.. I love dogs and had almost all the breads GSD, Lab, Rotwiller and Pamorelin. One of my village friend bought this Mudhol dog believe me its "outstanding breed". As usual we Indians are always fascinated by foreign breeds. If you have tones of land then go for it it's stands top of all breads for sure.
