I admire Karnataka for bringing back and preserving their local belongings who indirectly makes the whole nation proud! Even other state governments have to do so with their own Indies like Rampur Hound, Rajapalayam, Bully Kutta, Kombai, etc! Karnataka has already become an example for other states or regions and I've huge respect for the Kannadigas from the bottom of my heart! Kudos! 🙏🙌❤️😇

We had Mudhol in our house since almost 1998. Our first Mudhol bitch survived for nearly 15 years. Her son won many awards in the Kennel shows held in Bangalore between 2005 and 2008. I remember people in Bangalore did not know what this breed was and made fun of us, calling it a street dog then. For people, a dog meant Labrador and other foreign breeds. Good people are getting to know what a Mudhol is, and they are getting to know local Indian breeds.

Very heartening to see this! Many thanks to Dr. Sushanth for his commendable work to preserve this breed. As a child, I grew up with Mudhol dogs when I was living in Hebbal, Bangalore. We had two and they were called Bhadra and Kali. They were loyal, brave, affectionate and they were very sturdy, they never fell ill. It was a problem exercising them regularly though. My advise to people who want to have these dogs - please arrange for daily exercise, this is crucial for the dogs as they are hounds and they need to run a lot.

We have an indian breed dog with us ( 2 years old). Don't know the exact breed but picked up from a litter when her mother died. She is very agile, friendly yet protective with new members. Our indian dog breeds are no less in terms of quality and diversity. Our dogs might not have a fluffy fur but if we feed quality food their skin gets nourished, and you can see how beautiful and strong they look. We are lossing our indigineous breeds. I am not against foreign breeds, but since they are not indigenous to our climate they need extra care which asks lot of money than we can afford.
@kamus247810 ай бұрын
Yes. We had a Indie breed canine like you for 13 yrs. With regular food ( pretty much what we ate with extra milk , chicken/fish with the family ) he thrived and reached a muscular 45 kgs . Never needed any supplements, remained in top class health till it was time for the dude to say goodbye. I have seen desi dogs cavorting in foreign dog parks and their owners reported them taking well to cold climates too. Indians, out of their own self-doubt and ignorance deride this super smart, ancient breed as "mongrels" or "desi / road ka kutta" while these canines have bested insurmountable odds and aced natural selection. I love all dogs but even for the sake of the foreign breeds who are mostly ill suited to India's climate , it makes sense to prefer local breeds.

There are two Mudhol hounds at my aunt's house. I'd never seen one before, and they weren't really as friendly or social as Golden Retrievers or Labradors. But over time, they got very friendly with me, and now they know me well. Still, they don't demonstrate affection the way the fancy foreign breeds do. They have their own way. It's different but very easy to get attached to them. It's a matter of pride that these fine dogs are from my state. Grateful to this institution for the work that they've done.

The adult Mudhol hounds are sturdy and strongly built, they are sometimes taller than doberman dogs. You won't mess with them in your right mind. The pups however are very cute 😊 The Mudhol Hound looks superior even at first glance. You won't confuse it with simple street dogs. These are quite unique dogs. I saw them first in my life. Someday if I ever want a pet I will for sure consider these Mudhol Hounds.

I have had 7 mudhols and currently have 2. They are great dogs. Great hunters. They take care of my farm where they have large area for exercise that they need. Using the breed for army and police work is not a very good idea because any time in their life their hunting instinct will kick in without warning. Just because they are an indian breed and because Modi said they can be used in the forces doesn't mean they are fit for such jobs. There are purpose bread dogs for such jobs. Mudhols are great companions and watchdogs.

You might be right, but army is a capable organisation which can breed and train them in such a fashion that suits their requirement. Also only by having few dogs in army will make people aware and educated of this breed as there are no advertisement or movies made on these speechless creatures. And as Indians we only want things to show off right from house, car, mobile phones to even dog breeds. So such indigenous brees also need their representation to be promoted.
