Very nice. Have been using Moleskine watercolour albums myself. They come in four sizes and feature also special watercolor paper( 200 grs./135 lb.).

You made me order the sepia Steve. Looking forward to try it. Nice sketch and a wonderfull little book. I followed Angela Fehr already and enrolled in one of her online classes. I'm chronicly ill and not always able to attend classes and so online courses and tutorials are ideal for me. You should start your one online courses! Your styles are different but like Angela, you are a gifted painter and an awsome teacher!

I like Fabiano Artístico best for sketching too. Since I use fountain pens & watercolor for sketches it strikes a good balance of smooth enough for pens & textured enough for watercolor. Since I could not find any sketchbooks using this paper, I make two sizes of sketchbooks using this paper. I used the bookbinding tutorials of Sea Lemon on KZbin. Lots of steps especially since I had to start with cutting big sheets into sizes I wanted. Worth the time & effort!

Yes, good idea. I like her tutorials. A guy named Erwin Lian made some that he sold on Indiegogo, called The Perfect Sketchbook, but those aren't available any more.

Thanks to you I love my Pentel waterbrush. I bought it to use for lifting out, no good it went in box but after your demo I dug it out and in the box found 12 set aquatone pencil set must be 14 years old.This year I have done my own Christmas cards. No prize winner but I had fun. Ta!

I have the white canvas Etchr sketchbooks - but was thinking of buying the 3 bundle of the Perfect sketchbook. The Etchr site doesn’t say what brand of paper they are using, so I’m assuming it’s not a name brand. Can anyone tell me how it compares to brands like arches or Fabriano?

Love the video. Quick question - - are you working directly from the pan or did you make a little wash pool? The paint seems to be "very dry" and stays exactly where you put it. Thanks

+Jim Hartlage A bit of both actually. I'll make a puddle of it though usually to see what my value is. The paper is pretty absorbent so it seems drier than it is.

Yes. As for size, it would do most of the work, but I would probably bring a larger flat too ( or round for that matter) for that sizes book.

Steve, Nothing to do with the Perfect Sketchbook, but a sketchbook question none the less. I've purchased several Pentallic Sketchbooks in the last few years. The pages on the smaller horizontal size 5 x 8 were sewn and held up very well. However, recently when I received the larger model (horizontal) 7 x 10 it was glued and proceeded to fall apart not too far into the painting sketches. I've had to tape the pages in!!! Have you heard anything about this. Also think I will contact the company. Thanks so much for any input. Fran Jones, State College, PA

Don't believe so. He sold out of every book he ever made rather quickly. They were highly sought after. You might luck into one on Ebay or something where someone decided they didn't want theirs. However, there is another guy on eBay making Arches and Fabriano 100% cotton watercolor sketchbooks. Raphael is a good quality brush. Perhaps stiffer than the Black Velvets which are very soft.

Sketch book is too small as far as I am concerned artist grade or not artist grade paper.

A little disappointed with this vid. A third of it is about a product no longer available and, noting from the two clamps to hold it open, doesn't seem particularly practicle. Also, how necessary is it to have a very expensive, high-quality sketch book? The term is "sketch", after all. However, the lesson is, of course, brill as usual and all this is a quibble compared to every other video you put out. Thank you.

+Gaëtan Charlebois If you noted in the video I mentioned it's not really about the product I held in my hand. But the pocket version is the only one available in order to show what he was able to accomplish and the workmanship that can be expected. The clips are there because I am painting on a steep angled easel. Outside, you usually will use your hands to hold such a sketchbook. It holds open very easily. Mostly I agree with you on the quality and the necessity of it, but it was still sooo nice to paint in a sketchbook of this quality. Erwin is a very accomplished and talented artist and has filled books with his work. He knows his preference and mind. This book represents a neat story that I was anxious to share and is quite an accomplishment because he is just an individual with no money and backing except what he could raise. Is it necessary to have silk pajamas or eat off of fine china? Nope. but once in a while the experience is luxurious. This product is amazing! Thanks for watching and I'm glad you like my other videos.

Please allow me to explain: 1) I can't find such quality sketchbooks, therefore, i started The Perfect Sketchbook. 2) Your reason is valid and this is why they will not be available in retail stores...the demand just isn't there . As you have mentioned, most don't find it necessary to paint in quality sketchbooks.... However, there are still a bunch of us who do cherish quality art-work, specially in our sketchbooks.
