So exciting to see this on KZbin...I have been doing this "wet into wet" technique since 1990...used this for teaching, demos, wellness, therapy...and to assist in loosening and becomeing fearless with watercolor. My first medium was " Water-soluable" black ink....when it met the water, it became spontaneous, and as it dries the color separated and showed some tints of yellow and sepia...( must be watersoluable). Thanks for showing this technique publicly. So often the "art critic" in my head says..."this is not real art" and I need to press through and continue my journey...at least now, I have great company!

Thought I would pass this along. After watching this video, I was experimenting doing a few little studies of my own and discovered an interesting technique with the masking fluid. I place a few drops on the paper and then used different sized straws to blow it out into various sized veins. The end result was quite amazing....

Have you demonstrated a spontaneous splatter painting lately? I would like to see the result today as compared to 5 years ago. I can see some differences in this video to more recent spontaneous landscapes. It is cool to see an accomplished painter’s style or skills continue to evolve.

Great video! More spontaneous landscapes, please. Perhaps Blue Ridge Mountains in background with old barn or house vaguely in foreground...something like that. Also, in the past I've used table salt, course salt and regular old coffee flakes to lay down on wet watercolors for magical effects. You never know what you're going to get. But, anticipation is the key here as you really should wait overnight before wiping away either of them with your fingers, every so lightly. And, viola! You have a surprise and wonderful effects!

It looks amazing and so fun. Reminds me of the time when we used to sit with a few friends and do this kind of spontaneous painting together on one big sheet of paper. One girl made the most beautiful trees with this clear water spattering technique. Thanks for sharing this amazing video, it's always fun to watch you paint.

I'm so glad I found your channel. I have wc painted for ten years off and on. I learned from a teacher who had you "copy and trace their work and use their colors." When she retired, I realized that I didn't know how to paint water, landscapes, loose. It made me sad. I'm currently trying to paint from my own photos. Your channel has given me hope to re-learn, learn new things and not be so afraid to start because of fear of failure. You have a talent for teaching! Thanks for sharing with us! :-)

Amazing, as always! Aug. 7th I suffered a twice fatal heart attack. The Lord saw fit to let me live another day after going flat line two times. To Him I give glory and praise! He has blessed me with a desire and a bit of talent to express myself with art. As most artists, I dabble in different mediums. Right now I'm into alcohol inks. I would love to see a video from The Mind of Watercolour, using alcohol inks, please? I use a spray bottle of water with my inks when wet on occasion, to get the unique special effects. Also, when I watercolour I use a spray bottle filled with 91% alcohol on occasion. Art never ceases to amaze me! Please keep your amazing videos coming! I really look forward to each and every new one you post Steve. God bless and keep you.

+Belle Towers Thanks! God has his timing for each of us. I appreciate your testimony. I don't ever use alcohol inks unfortunately. Don't even own any so I have no videos planned for that. Most alcohol mediums are dye-based and are not lightfast so they don't make for a good permanent fine art medium. Fine for crafting and journaling I suppose.

@ Adam Wallen - Thanks again Adam for your support. I lean almost exclusively towards the transparents in my color choices. In my tighter work I do so much glazing that I like the results better. I own very few semi-transparents and no opaques that I can remember. There might be one lurking somewhere in a drawer. MG is one of the richest pigment brands I know of. So far, at least in my findings, only matched by Qor.

+The Mind of Watercolor I used the same technique about 3 years ago in a winter scene but with an old tooth brush. It's an alternative not to damage a good fan brush. Otherwise I think it is possible to save the good brushes if you clean the brush immediately after applying the masking fluid. Or you can use additionally a kind of brush soap.

Great as usual Steve! I really like the MG Red Oxide (pr101). I generally use WN Venetian Red, but it can get too opaque quickly. The MG, at least what you did here, seems brighter and more transparent. It is funny how manufacturers can use the same pigments (well at least that is what they tell us) and hues and intensity and other properties look completely different. Thanks for the work here Steve. I am always pleased when I see you have uploaded in my sub feed.
