I loved the part about the importance of father’s teaching their children how to play. Every time you guys bring up your children or talk about how you are raising your kids, you inspire me so much! I’m 23 and didn’t have a great connection with my father but one day I plan on being a good father to my children. You guys have taught me so much throughout the episodes so I just wanted to thank you for sharing your good and bad learning curves of being a good father! And I hope your experiences help inspire others to be the best father’s that they can be

Jordan Peterson has discussed other fairytales in the past, like Pinocchio and Peter Pan. I love his breakdown of Sleeping Beauty, it’s in the same vein as Jonathan did with Snow White. I know that the boys would love that one too! Happy to see that discussion pop up here. Makes me feel like I’m listening to the right people.

Related to the first caller's question, I recently had to take nearly 3 weeks off due to a lingering cold. Instead of jumping back into what I did before, I did the same workout but cut back on the volume and am gradually ramping it back up until I get back to where I was before. Upping protein intake helped with recovery. When I was ill, I cut a lot of carbs and starches which kept me from gaining too much body fat from being sedentary. The increased protein seems to help recovery too. I used to shoot for about 100 grams of protein from food before, now I go for 170 or more, with more whole foods and added a protein shake. I also had trouble sleeping when I was ill because of the cold itself, plus my exercise routine usually helps me sleep better and I was deprived of that. I am a practicing physician with a family so my schedule can be rough even when I am not fighting a cold, and these changes seem to help. I usually have built in training breaks throughout the year due to family concerns or travel. When I am away if there is a gym I will use it and do submaximal workouts that are different from my usual routine and are meant to be fun and provide a different stimulus than normal. If no gym, then will do some bodyweight sessions with the same goal. Thanks to the Mindpump guys for great info, I have shared episodes of your podcast with friends of mine.

As someone who lost weight on dirty keto and has become clean over the past few years, it's no surprise how easily we are manipulated. Subjectively speaking, we go low carb and lose weight, and see results but then don't take into account other underlying metabolic factors from those hidden ingredients. All about doing what's best for your body AND mind.

Plus im like Sal and my wife knows when i missed a day at the gym without needing to talk about it 😂.

There's so much good info in this episode -- it's simply fantastic. I particularly want to commend your referal to the Stronger by Science podcast. Personally, I've always been skeptical of the motivation of scientists, but I found, after randomly choosing their episode on Goal Setting and Behavior Change, that there emphasis was more focused on the Zen/Karl Jungian concepts of future-self & current-self w/ scientific studies referenced to underline points being made (Also thanks to JBP ackground on some of this). The video was filled with good, practical advise. The foremost being, how important it is to reflect on, and think deeply about, who you want to be, why that is, and how are you going to become that. Part of a plan for me has to be to find a way to reincorporate fraternal rapport in my life. Since the passing of my Fater and brother several years ago, that has been missing. Each and every episode you guys show that in spades -- that's very cool! Also, thanks to you for helping me drop 50 pounds, and getting me back on the path to physical fitness. -DB

With me having a disordered eating past, me switching to Whole Foods while being able to come to terms that fat is satiating, I have learned that anything labeled as “healthy” or “low calorie” in which is processed is not nearly as satisfying as a steak. That’s where you see the results when you give your body the fats and carbs and protein it’s really craving. The food industry sets us up to to fail.

My issue with the fitness community is that they know this - that food is addictive and then blame people for being addicted. They seat away every excuse that recognizes obesity as not being a choice . Do we sit there and blame Alcholics for being addicted to alcohol? No we recognize alchoholism is a disease and we put people into treatment and recognize an alchohol I can’t go it on their own. So why do we shame metabolically unhealthy people who are clearly in the same boat as heroin addicts or alcholics for being addicted? Ridiculous.

You're wrong about the process meat issue. Process meats like hot dogs do not cause the issues these 'studies' say they do. If you conduct a study with just processed meats then you would have similar health outcomes as just regular meat, its just that processed meats are generally on top of pizzas, sandwiches, etc.

About the atheist thing Sal talked about... It's pretty simple in my mind: you either have good evidence that a god exists or you don't. And while all those thinkers over the thousands of years certainly shared a lot of wisdom they all came from this preconceived position of god or gods existing. None of them proved it on any meaningful way. So atheism is just the neutral stance on the matter: I remain unconvinced about the existence of god until there is convincing evidence. Has nothing to do with arrogance. It's how we approach anything else in life.

Random recommendation. As a woman of color that is obsessed with your podcast content and is into fitness, it would be great to see more diversity in your guest speaker base (particularly inviting true fitness icons of color like Massy Arias or psychologist Nedra Tawwab) to discuss some of the topics you all bring to light. I respect that you are catering to a particular audience but there is a really significant opportunity for you all to have some impact by expanding who you are targeting/inviting to speak.
