I just turned 49 and hadn't been in a gym since my early 30's. I used to do Pilates and group classes and light weights. I had my girls at 39 and 42 and was slim but had a bit of a mom bod. After having bad Covid in 2021, I joined the gym in September of that year. It was a wake up call for me to be the healthiest version of my self that I can be to be there for my kids. It was intimidating to be in the weight room when I has never even seen or heard of a squat rack or an Olympic bar. My first goal was to be consistent and after 6 months of consistency I started doing more research and realised that training fasted and just trying to cut back was not serving me. I started having breakfast, increased my protein to a pound/bodyweight, added in creatine, increased my water intake to 2-4 litres. I realised that I wasn't eating much but what I was eating was fairly low protein. I had no idea that this was the case until I started tracking. I concentrated on getting stronger and lift as heavy as I can for 5-6 days a week. My weight dropped after 6 months and then went back up to my starting weight after two years. Although my weight is similar, I lost 10 percent bodyfat, went down 2 sizes in jeans and have shoulder and back muscles for the first time in my life. I feel and look strong. I wish I could go back to my 30 year old self so say, eat more, train hard and heavy and enjoy the benefits of a strong and healthy mind and body. Thank you Mind Pump for your daily wisdom.

It is so hard to tell yourself to eat more when you have had been told for decades to eat less to lose weight. I know my push to grow muscle needs the support/calories, but I tell myself that should come from my existing fat rather than what I eat. I am eating 140g or more of protein, but I feel like that is all I should need to support the muscle growth because my “pantry”, aka my hips and thighs should support the rest. I appreciate all the info you guys give and I’m trying to trust the process.

As a female, I like to do a mixture - I train hard in the gym (strength training) 4 days a week, eat 130g protein, take 5g creatine AND am in a calorie deficit. I'm still getting stronger, but I'm also losing fat too. I tried reverse dieting but just put fat on and felt awful about myself- so now I'm on a cut and then once I'm at the BFP I want to be at, I'll maintain or slight bulk. If I had no fat to lose, then yeah, a slight surplus would be a great idea, but if you're a lady who wants to lose a few lbs, I wouldn't personally recommend surplus cals. Cut first, then maintain.

@BethVonBlack

@@BethVonBlackI’ve been trying to figure out how to go about increasing my calories… I might just eat at a slight deficit and make sure my protein is high. Apparently, my maintenance is 1700 calories based on calculations. How big is your deficit? Do you include exercise calories in your deficit?
@BethVonBlack
@BethVonBlack 8 ай бұрын
@@GizelleQuant I won’t share my exact deficit as it’s extremely individualised, but no I don’t count exercise into my calories - there’s no way to gauge that accurately as treadmills (etc) are notoriously inaccurate and tbh, exercise should be enjoyed, not used to burn extra cals imo.
@GizelleQuant
@GizelleQuant 8 ай бұрын
@@BethVonBlack Fantastic. No need to share but I’ll try to figure out my own deficit and implement it this upcoming week for 8 weeks. Thanks so much for the speedy reply! (I agree about exercise and caloric burn estimates. I was just curious..)

I don't know how the universe led me to this channel. I've been struggling with an eating disorder for the last 5 years, transitioning from extreme dieting to binge-eating and now dealing with orthorexia. This channel has been truly eye-opening for me because my current goal is to become lean while building strength simultaneously. I often feel weak, even after eating or doing nothing. I'm trying to increase my calorie intake, but it's incredibly challenging. It's not that I feel uncomfortable doing it; it's just too much food for me to consume. Despite being 5 feet tall, I eat 1800kcal every single day, and while I feel satisfied and not hungry, I'm constantly tired. Thank you, guys, for your enlightening content. It's truly helping me. ❤️

how are your thyroid levels? Maybe ask docs to check that and your iron, vit D too. I was SO tired, and it was because I was actually anemic and hypothyroid, double whammy.

I'm a month into my journey. I haven't lost anything according to the scale. However I've lost two inches off my waist and my shoulders are starting to get definition I haven't seen in awhile. Just bought the starter bundle and honestly this podcast has helped me stay on this. If anyone is on the fence about these dudes don't be! I can't believe I've spent thirty years of my life not knowing what I've learned from MP the last few weeks! Wild.

My name is Mariah S. and I just bought the body transformation bundle! I'm super excited to get started. I'm currently training for a half marathon scheduled Feb 18th, but am looking to build my strength back after that. I started strength training with intention back in October and I was 167lbs. I began tracking my food and macros and I've followed your podcasts and guidance/tips since then and you guys helped me lose 34lbs once December hit. I plateaued and slacked off around the holidays so I signed up for the half marathon just to challenge myself and build some endurance. When I get back to strength training more days in the week following my race... I know your MAPS programs are gonna take me to the next level!! I'm a former rugby player and have had some injuries in the past that have caused a bit of trouble over the years with balance and overall challenges in training with certain parts of my body being stronger than the other side. It would be SICK to add symmetry to the programs I've just purchased!! Thanks so much for your guidance, it has truly changed my life!

You guys have become such a part of my life ! I saw Sal on a podcast right after Resistance Revolution came out and quite frankly I hadnever heard of you before. I’m a 70 yo Grammie who j recovered from a fractured hip 2020 and pelvis in 2018. Trying to keep from being a static ( dead within a year of the fall) Then I saw Dr Lyons twice on your show, bought her book and now I’m working on getting buff. It ain’t easy at 70!

This show has helped get back into the fitness mindset. I used to live in San Diego and would be at the gym every day at 4am. But I moved home in 2020 because my parents were sick. Sadly both of them passed away and I went down a spiral gaining a lot of weight in a short time. I’m 50lbs heavier. I would say I’m still strong but I’m carrying a lot of fat now too. I’ve tried CrossFit, Pilates, running to get back into shape but it’s so hard to feel motivated. I’m glad I found this podcast to help shift my mindset when I feel like I’m off track.

Hi guys. I’ve been listening to your podcast since November, which is a game changer for me. I have been lifting heavy 5 days a week and eating at surplus and seeing body transformation slowly. I’m feeling so strong on a daily basis as I no longer worry about the calories, my weight, eating carbs etc. like the old school weight loss regime. With less cardio routines, my joints are happier and less injuries. After 2 years of impaired autoimmunity, leaky gut, half ass keto diet, I’m finally feeling my best mentally and physically. Thanks Mind Pump. Your podcasts are usually longer so I usually listen in 1.75x speed. You guys sound funnier talking fast. 😂

One of, if not the most important thing about fitness is that it promotes improvement in every aspect of our lives :). Ghulam Mohammad Baksh Butt (22 May 1878 - 23 May 1960), commonly known by the title Rustam-e-Hind and by the ring name The Great Gama, was a pehlwani wrestler and strongman in British India and later, Pakistan. He was born in Jabbowal village (Amritsar District) in the Punjab Province of British India in 1878, and was awarded a version of the World Heavyweight Championship on 15 October 1910. Undefeated in a career spanning more than 52 years, he is considered one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. Gama defeated some of the most respected grapplers in the world, "Doc" Benjamin Roller of the United States, Maurice Deriaz of Switzerland, Johann Lemm (the European Champion) of Switzerland, and Jesse Peterson (World Champion) from Sweden. Louis Cyr was a French Canadian strongman with a career spanning the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His recorded feats, including lifting 500 pounds (227 kg) (1/4 ton) with one finger and backlifting 4,337 pounds (1,967 kg) (2 tons), show Cyr to be, according to former International Federation of BodyBuilding and Fitness chairman Ben Weider as stated in 2000, the strongest man ever Aleksandr Aleksandrovich Karelin Karelin competed in Greco-Roman wrestling, representing the Soviet Union and Russia between 1987 and 2000. Karelin lost his first and last match. In between he won 887 matches. He was undefeated for 13 years and no one scored a point against him for 7 years. Karelin won 2 Olympic Gold medals and one silver, so he was drug tested. Sir Donald George Bradman was an Australian international cricketer, widely acknowledged as the greatest batsman of all time. Bradman's career Test batting average of 99.94 is considered by some to be the greatest achievement by any sportsman in any major sport The next best average by anyone of note is only around 60. Jim Thorpe was an American athlete and Olympic gold medalist. Thorpe was the first Born American to win a gold medal for the United States in the Olympics. He is considered one of the most versatile athletes in modern sports, he won two Olympic gold medals in the 1912 Summer Olympics one in classic pentathlon and the other in the decathlon. He also played American football, professional baseball, and basketball. After his Olympic success, Thorpe joined the Canton Bulldogs American football team in 1915, enabling them to win three professional championships. I have started to lift heavier wts. I am 65 yrs old 5’3” and have dieted and exercise my whole life. I am trying to eat more protein, I average about 120-130 g of protein a day.I don’t eat a lot and at times struggle to get 1200 cal/day. I go to the gym 6 days, I lift wts most of the time and do the treadmill 2x wk for 30 mins. I fell good but I am A slow loser. I have lost 5lbs in 7wks. I do know that if I eat carbs bread ect I will gain. I would appreciate any advice you may have. Love your show!

It is absolutely amazing that when people think of a healthy person it's automatically a cover model with a 6 pack, male or female. Or a workout is 2 hours of burpees and battle ropes till you puke. The majority of people can get a workout with a big empty laundry detergent jug filled with water. It doesn't have to be the extreme booty boot camp 3000 XL class. More people need to listen to Mindpump, that's how we solve this problem.

Adam, not necessarily in sports, but in life, my motto is, blame yourself or blame no-one. However, that said, my worst injury was sitting in a car at a red light, and being in a 5 car pile up and having a station wagon fall out of the sky and land on my head. Literally EVERYTHING else has always been 100% my fault for being a dumbass.

I am much heavier not flabby but not lean 😭 … I did reverse diet but I did it wrong 😑… I lowered my calories again with 2 weeks of just light workouts to reverse diet again properly with the 40 plus MAPS. In 1 week

Over 60 woman. Started training like a bodybuilder 30 yrs ago. I did compete. I was considered too muscular for a woman for many years. 5”4 116 for 40 yrs. Funny to see now, it’s all the rage. If you ever need a real woman’s experience, ring me up. 😂 It’s weird listening only to men discussing women. 5 kids and a flight attendant. If I could do it so can others. It’s about priorities.
