Oh trust me, they look VERY humbling! I've been running away from difficult exercises but thanks to this podcast and their emphasis on dips, chin ups and pull ups, I decided to piss right into the wind and do the hard humbling exercises The cool thing is that they save you time, so you can cry in agony for some good 10 minutes on the floor after finishing your routine

Weighted ring push ups + weighted dips are my favorites.
@juangraciaofficial2 жыл бұрын
@@userunknown1578 Damn I can't even do them with just my body weight. Any advice to avoid hurting myself? I was incorporating body weight exercises to my routine but hurt my shoulder with dips
@userunknown15782 жыл бұрын
@@juangraciaofficial make sure your shoulders don't roll forward, don't let your chest cave in, you want your arms externally rotated(your elbow pits face forward), your shoulders should be depressed for the entire movement, and let your scapula retract on the way down and protract at the top. Parallel bar support hold and parallel bar reverse shrugs will help you too(look up videos for proper form for these).

Dips are my jam for sure, even better when weighted. While not as convenient to setup as the bench press, progressive overload can easily be programmed using weighted dips, with more functional carryover. Best of all, no getting stapled to the bench if you fail a rep! Great show as usual!

Awesome video, always enjoy tuning in. The conversations about the old strong men is always going to be my favorite. i personally train in all body weight applications, even sort of making my own weights especially for farmers walk. A really good book that taps into some areas of this is called Convict Conditioning by Paul Wade goes through the history of how strong men of old got so insanely strong without using any of the modern machines due them either not being mass produced yet or they just couldn't afford them. I've also picked up a copy of "Dinosaur Training by Brooks Kubik", so far a fantastic read, I'm fascinated with old strong men tactics. Lastly I started watching you guys about a month ago and I've learned more in that time then I have from any other program or outlet. Cant wait to binge more! Take care!

My two favorite pushing movements are standing OHP and weighted dips. I also do a lot of pushup variations and incline barbell bench when I feel like it. 😄 But I actually find pushing exercises boring and have to force myself to do them. I've always enjoyed weighted and bodyweight pullups and row variations a lot more.

Gentlemen, your podcast raises questions! You mentioned that people could deadlift a lot but bulgarian split squats were still difficult due to hip and ankle stability. How do you fix that?? The shoulder and back are also areas that we could probably benefit from increased stability. How would you target those areas?? Also thank you for podcast 1615. It’s the first “program” or set up that has ever been laid out for a new beginner. Stumbled upon it yesterday and will be revisiting it soon. :)

I'm excited to see the transference when I go to max again! I also switched my caloric intake from below 1500 a day (for a long time) to 22-2500 and I'm down 4 pounds so far but it's always fluctuating. Thank you guys for the info you've put out there!! Laugh all you want but hurting your "pec insertion" is no joke! I once overdid the load on a bench press (maybe should've warmed up more) and the injury on my sternum lasted more than a year to recover. Any load or even a regular push-up would give me chest pain. I do bench presses nowadays, but with at least 3-4 warm up sets, a lot less weight and slow eccentric.

Hey Sal! Got a hair tip for ya. They recently found out (2017 ish) that a large percentage of people getting Botox near the scalp had around 10-25% hair regrowth. They believe it is because (predominantly in men) the muscles of the scalp tighten over time, reducing blood flow to your hair. This means your follicles get less blood supply, and therefore less building material. I think I saw a guy on Tom Bilyou’s show talk about it. Shouldn’t be too hard to find on KZbin. Try a 5 minute scalp massage in your shower routine! Edit: Also, doing your own scalp massage is an insane hand workout. #AlwaysPumping

I pretty much never do bench press... have a great chest without it with doing chest dips, suicide push-ups, cables, and inclined dumbbell press
@stormrhode2330 Жыл бұрын
It's not very often that I disagree with you guys, but arguing that a straight bar chest dip is more functional than a bench press is really pushing it (pardon the pun). 1. The straight bar chest dip can put a lot of the strain on the shoulders. People will typically internally rotate which can jack up the rotators and increase upper back tension and lead to pesky knots. 2. The exercise is basically a calisthenic decline bench press. It's going to target the muscle fibers in your lower chest most of all. I agree that this exercise is superior to a decline bench, but not to flat or incline. 3. A standard/flat bench is much like a push-up. It's not an exact parallel (again, pardon the pun), but it's close. And I firmly believe that push-ups are more functional than dips. ESPECIALLY if you consider that probably 99% of people (maybe 80% of Mind Pump viewers) can't even execute a proper straight bar chest dip. 4. This is not a good exercise to perform with sloppy technique. Not only do the returns quickly diminish, but the risks increase tremendously, too. I don't think I've ever programmed straight bar chest dips, though I have programmed bench press and incline press with both barbells and dumbbells. And most of my workouts are geared toward functional calisthenics. Triceps dips on rings are a common exercise in my routine, though.

Adam is right! Talking of younger generation phrases, the kids are changing the language to confuse us parents. My 15 year old daughter says the kids now say 'LENG' to describe someone that is hot or something that is the best. A person can be leng, and so can clothes, meals, etc. Maybe just a UK thing,?

Amazing how the overhead press has respect as a lift. It was banned in the 70s not long after Ken Patera broke 500 in it. Its absolutely a joke as you could do shrugs and side raises without pushing the supraspinatus tendon hard up into the acronym.
