In a relative perspective, the positive thing about an economic war is that it does not cost human lives to the same extent as a conventional war.

I wonder if the worsening socioeconomic inequality worldwide since the Great Recession has played in role in the decline of adult skills. Poverty is known to have a negative impact on cognitive function and not all households and regions have recovered from the global financial crisis 16 years ago. Those who didn't certainly will do worse on cognitive health and the declining score is just a representation of that. Of course, the cause of the Great Recession is a taboo in economic-focused media for obvious reasons, so I am not surprised at all that this important thing is not mentioned here.

Answer, YES! The senior policy advisor to the U.S. Department of ... ‎Early Life and Education, Charlotte Iserbyt, wrote a book about it called "The Deliberate Dumbing Down of America"; but this goes worldwide.
