FOR those of you who cannot grasp content very quickly. The reason Credit is negative and debit is positive on the general ledger is because it is from your perpesctive. Debit is negative and credit is positive on the Bank Reconciliation statement because it is the bank's perspective. Example- when you deposit R200 into an account, it is positive for you because your asset is increasing but this is a negative for the bank because it means they owe you R200 which is negative for them. Why does the the bank owe you R200- by you depositing the money, you are asking the bank to hold your money, in a way its like you are borrowing them your money hence we say the bamk owes you. I hope this clearified a few thing😊

4.6 I think we are supposed to credit R510 because in favor of the bank means its from the point of view of the bank- when in favor of the bank, it means this amount is a debit for the bank because it reduces the amount the bank owes you but on the general ledger it is a credit because it is a liability to you
