So quotes the sinner who will not come to the light. Jesus said that He was the light of the world. And whoever follows Him shall not walk in darkness (of sin) but have the light of life. (John 8:12) And it is evident why the sinner will not come. Because they love their sinful ways. (John 3:19) "He who covers his sins will not prosper, But whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy." (Proverbs 28:13) You desperately need the Savior Jesus Christ.

I think what is so devastating about Malachi is after the people of gone through exile , famine, drought, inflation, and rebuilding their homeland, YHWH just dumps on them. They rightly ask, “ what is the point of worshipping YHWH? “. Does YHWH apologize? No. He gives a false promise of the future. The worst of it all: the people are trying, but YHWH does not care. He wants perfection.

That dumping wasn't sudden. This was after repeated warnings to abandon a sinful lifestyle. It's like when an addict has to go through homelessness, hunger, cold, hospital says, and perhaps even prostitution, you feel awful for them, but if they refuse to even consider giving up the drugs that got them in that position, what can you do for them? Nothing. You are forced to move on until they're willing to change their ways. God might be a different story since he supposedly has more power than we do. But what can WE do in the face of such resistance? Nothing.

Honestly, my biggest issue with Judaism, theologically and historically, is that it reads like a collection of excuses for why their God is real, even though he's not doing what he promised, just like a snake oil salesman who is confronted by the fact that his product doesn't do what it says on the bottle. Oh, you must have administered it wrong, we must have not been honoring God, you didn't shake the bottle before using it, God must have a plan to fix things in the future, etc.

Very true, its like, the writers of the Hebrew Scriptures had to answer the question: how is it that the chosen people of the one true all powerful god are in exile and are losing to other nations who do not follow the one true god? It is a good question. And you’re right. They always have an excuse. The most common one is mankind’s disobedience, sin, and worshiping other gods. Why did Israel get conquered? No, god let them get conquered because of their sin and worship of false gods. This explanation worked well enough for me when I was a believer in Christianity. Now I see how its just seeing what you want to see. It doesn’t disprove or prove the faith true or real. But it isn’t evidence.

For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water, by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water. But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. ...The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance." @@christophergibson7155 actually, there were several things that happened before the sinking that were generally just really careless/selfish acts, and honest mistakes. this is why the titanic is so widely popular as a maritime disaster because everything that could’ve gone wrong did, and it was like a domino effect. people thought the titanic couldn’t sink because it was 1912, people were naive, and they were lied to about the building and sailing process. the lookout for the ship didn’t even have the binoculars, and the only other person with a key for the spare binoculars was a different worker on the ship that was transferred last minute. they also discussed lifeboats several times before finally setting sail. the titanic was also set sail during the time where massive and multiple icebergs were common in that part of the ocean, but the captain and crew wanted to prove a point. “According to their calculations, the Titanic averaged a sprightly 22 knots. As the sun set on April 14, 1912, the temperature lowered to freezing. The sea's surface shone like glass, making it hard to spot icebergs, common to the North Atlantic in spring. Nevertheless, Captain Smith kept the ship at full speed.” so in addition, they also couldn’t even see the iceberg, on top of no binoculars. “SS Californian was a British Leyland Line steamship. She is thought to have been the only ship to see the Titanic, or at least her rockets, during the sinking, but despite being the closest ship in the area, the crew took no action to assist.” another one of the many things that happened during this entire event that could’ve been preventable. it sounds to be like the titanic sank because of human arrogance and neglect, also humans are not perfect. the entire crew and the shipbuilders were only human, and that’s not an excuse, but it explains things, especially given the era in time. this era was considered very sophisticated, and the higher in ranks you were socially speaking, the more respect you were given. not much different from today. so the high ranking shipbuilders and passengers helped spread the narrative that the ship couldn’t sink, much like how things spread today i’m regards to the millions of people that follow influencers, the popular crowd at school, work, etc. i remember in 2015 when everyone was doing the kylie jenner lip challenge, so human beings are easy to persuade. don’t quote me on it, but i’m also pretty sure it says in a different passage that jesus was supposed to come back before a handful of people at the time died, and welp, that didn’t happen. it’s weird that you’re cool with an unknown number of human beings just vanishing off the face of the earth one day for the purpose of the rapture. what happens when one of those people are driving a car with a nonbeliever in it? what happens when one of those people is a surgeon, vanishing mid surgery? or literally any other scenario where this could easily become a disaster? also please do your research on the rapture because from what i have heard, it was added in later for an entirely different reason. please don’t compare a real life tragedy to a fictional book, and please stop fear mongering.

I think going in chronological order is an important part of getting people to think about inerrancy. One of the first things that got me on the path to truth was learning Mark came first. Really gives a clear picture of what was embellished in the later gospels. There could be value in going through the "authentic" letters from Paul to show what was known prior to the gospels and how so many important things to Jesus' provenance were left out of his teachings. Jesus says be perfect. Jesus says do not resist evil- allow people to strike you and rob you. He says he is the Messiah, yet in Luke he tells the women , as he is on the way to the cross, don't weep for me, but for yourselves and your children. Jesus says you are guilty, not because of your acts, but because of your thoughts. Jesus took disciples, used them for what? John the Baptist was murdered. The disciples were all martyred. Jesus says do not resist evil. Seriously, don't resist evil? That is evil! No self defense allowed. Jesus says many will say "Lord, Lord, and he will spit them out". I think it might be because, like so many people, they never actually read the bible. They don't Know what's in there. How could anyone read that digest and come away with a belief in a god? All the evil that god visited on his people is indefensible. The catholics knew this. As a child in a catholic school, I clearly remember being cautioned by nuns and priests Not To Read The Bible. (they would read it for us and tell us what it said 😆 ) They also had their own version of the bible, and insisted that the protestant bibles were false, and it was sin to read their version.

My 2 cents: I would cover the NT in order, as this is a Bible Study, not a textual analysis. I think it will allow you to address topics in a more organized manner (I.e. first the life of Jesus through all 4 gospels, then the first church, then the epistles, etc). I realize these weren’t the order in which it was written, but it is how Christians today understand it. 🤷‍♀️

I'm half way through this video. I've missed a lot of them so I have lots to watch yet. Take a break! everyone needs that! It is enough now, I can't believe in God of the Old Testament. It's hard to let go after years of believing. But these were a lot of simple thoughts in my mind as a child in church, the things you discuss so eloquently and intelligently. I'm not really intelligent so this was great to see you go in depth. Thank you again for all your work in making these. I'm not going to bother arguing with my son about the bible, but I'm also not going to make anyone believe/not believe. Maybe one day he'll wake up and realize it doesn't make sense. He's been sick, he's had a concussion, following that he had a seizure, but attributes it to having demons and needing deliverance. I feel sorry for him. If I bring up my own health battles, many of them mental health, he says its the generational curse on me and I have demons. This course has opened my eyes even further. If there is a God, it's not Yaweh, Jehovah... it felt wrong so long ago and now I know I can't love this so called god who 'proves' his love by hating others.

Man Brandon...I gotta say. Putting the actual content to the side for a second (Which is top notch) I am so thoroughly impressed with your consistency. It's truly inspirational as it's something I've been struggling with. Now regarding the content, thank you for making this such a great and entertaining lesson. It's such an awesome way for people to learn about the bible from an educational standpoint vs an indoctrination standpoint, which is what was troubling when I was a Christian. I truly believe that the healthiest way to become an Atheist is to study the bible (and any religious texts) objectively, to see just how insane and ridiculous it is and continues to be the more you study it. I often ask 'Does this seem like it was written by an omni-perfect loving deity? or...bronze age farmers? Read Deuteronomy and let me know because I can't see anyone concluding in good faith that this sounds like it was written by an all powerful god.'

Re: NT SBS. I think you should do a special focus on the gospels. It might be worth doing a "regular" episode on each, then doing a special episode (or two) with a more in-depth comparison of the stories told in each. I see the difficulty in covering a single gospel narrative without referencing the incongruities between them, but perhaps having a separate episode about those issues might free you up to have a more narrow focus on each gospel on its own. No matter what, I realize how hard you work to make these videos happen. I'm sure whatever you do will be great. Keep up the amazing work.

Brandon, overall just a sincere thank you for going through these books. I am very appreciative. My thoughts on the structure of the New Testament: I definitely think the gospels need to be looked at horizontally rather than vertically Maybe story by story describe the differences. As far as Paul, I would do the actual, Paul, letters next, followed by the letters attributed to Paul that he did not write, and then obviously with the grand finale a Revelation. Those are my thoughts and thanks again, Brandon

Hi Brandon, I have to say, that the exploration through the Old Testament has been mind-blowing (and very enlightening.) I know you have your own thoughts about the New Testament. If you're going to be strictly accurate then you ought to start with the Epistles of Paul & the other apostles because they date from the 40s-50s AD (or CE if you take the secular view) and then you have The Gospel of Mark (or Mark) our earliest extant copy dates from about 65-75 AD although it was probably composed earlier. Then you have Matthew which was written about 89-90 AD; then you have Luke which some scholars date to about the same era, although some date it approximately 10 or 20 years later. Of course Mark, Matthew & Luke are known as the Synoptics, probably because they used a similar source [usually known as Q] and often the same sayings/stories. Then there's the Gospel of John - although techincally speaking it should be Acts of the Apostles and then the Gospel of John. However, I look forward to your exegeses of these documents - especially since in Mark, Matthew & John the (probably) Jewish writers almost certainly used OT Canon to prove that Jesus was the hoped for Messiah. It's even likely that Luke was what was known as a _noachides_ what was known as a 'God-fearer- so would have access to the 'Q' document/document that provided the basis for the Gospels proper. He might even have read Mark and thought he could do better for Gentiles. Anyway, now I've bored you senseless, I'll sign off and look forward to your next exploration of the books of the Bible.

Then here it comes again, that terrible, petty god saying, after all of this, you let me down again, it's not enough, nothing you do will make up for how you let me down, but don't forget how great I am and let me add I will be the greatest of them all. I’m looking forward to listening to your Secular Studies on the New Testament, however you decide to approach it, Brandon It will be refreshing to hear something different than the standard teaching - it is ironic that Evangelical/Fundamentalists will often criticize Catholics on their liturgical readings as being formulaic, but they definitely have set interpretations for the Gospels, Romans, Ephesians, Revelation, etc - witness the interpretation of Communion/Eucharist, the positions of Mary and Peter Catholics lean heavily on the Magisterium as the defining authority on ‘Sacred Scripture’ - both Catholics and Protestants are in thrall to their respective doctrines and traditions, and yes, Evangelicals and Fundamentalists, you DO have traditions

The thing is, if you read Mark and Matthew, Jesus is saying you should obey the commandments. He repeatedly calls for people to keep them if they wish to enter the kingdom of God or have eternal life. Christians take those verses and twist them saying "Jesus was trying to show that it is impossible to keep it" when Jesus says no such thing.
