You don't need to rotate your fingers, u can just to shut your fingers down and let the others, and u can calculate it by adding the finger that u shut with the other side and multiple the finger that u up for example : 6*7 is shut one finger on the right or left and shut two fingers on the other side and each finger that you shut are equal to ten and the rest is u can just adding them and multiple the the finger that u open and each finger that u open are equal to one

I really like this. Well done. Anything that helps kids learn their times/multiplication table is awesome. I do think that the problem with this method though is that if you aren't good at doing the addition in your head, you will get it wrong sometimes. Best to use this method to the point where you eventually don't need it. But, for many kids and adults, they might always need it, so it is great. Well done.

This was a help? By what stretch of the imagination is this considered helpful? This isn’t teaching the kids to memorize anything - it’s teaching them to rely upon woke math instead of memorizing - And yet it still requires one to memorize your times tables.
@johnathanstuart9022
@johnathanstuart9022 4 жыл бұрын
Wow, this is a wonderful tool to teach kids, thank you. For those of you who say "just memorize": memorization isn't the best method to teach math, and the sheer lack of adults who still do not fully understand multiplication proves that this older method has failed many generations. Reason for this is that there is a massive diversity in how people recall learned knowledge. For some, it is very visual but the majority of people it is hands on. So tools like this are actually wonderful methods in getting kids to begin memorizing the times tables. Telling a child to sit down and stare at a foreign piece of paper for hours in hope that they'll recall all of the information is illogical. Now having the child use the two tools they were born with to play with math, become more confident in their answers, and to never feel stuck is a wonderful alternative. And if you think this isn't a tool for memorization, then how did you ever learn how to play a sport, drive a car, or perform some level of physical activity that required physical memory? Most musicians will tell you that a great amount of their skill and talent is more subconscious memory (physical memory)

Speaking as a prior US Navy nuclear engineer who now formally teaches elementary, high school and university sciences and advanced mathematics, and whose son is now working on division with fractions (at only 5 years old - while seeking to complete 3rd grade through the University of Oxford)... The advantage to this technique is that it both allows younger children an easy access to multiplication through kinesthetic learning, while at the same time providing a form of visual model they can use anywhere - immediately. Rote memorization of the multiplication table is useful for many, but the data from published studies suggests not all, and actually much fewer than some would suspect. Few actually progress into careers with greater mathematical requirements, and this is largely because their understanding at an earlier level becomes tied to pure memorization of a table without understanding behind it, leading to frustrations and a growing sense of helplessness/hopelessness later. Ultimately, whether using fingers or the multiplication table, the end goal is automaticity. Both *can* yield this end goal, but those exposed to a functional way to derive results at an earlier age (the "anyone can do it effect') find improved sense of self-esteem that goes with the learning, and the process more solidly drives the learning into long-term.

I know what that is. It became helpful to me when I'm still not that good in Math. Now, I don't need that. In fact, I've been to Math Competitions and won. This is a proof that people can change. People can improve if they practice. This is an inspiration. But the single table in my mind still remain. The 9 times table in my mind. When you multiply something by 9, for example 9x6, decrease the factor other than 9 by 1 then multiply it by 10 so it will be 50. Then add the difference between 10 and the number other than the 9 so it would be 4. 50+4=54. It may seems long to you but it only takes me only 3 seconds to solve them. 9x6=54 Another example, 9x8=? 👆 8-1=7x10=70 }>_ Add these 10-8=2 }> two. 70+2=72 Thus, 9x8=72 From 8 to 70. The difference between 10 and 8. Add them together. Did you get it? Now, answer this. 9x7=?

For everyone saying, "Just memorize the times tables," that’s great if you have the type of memory that works to quickly memorize by rote. Not everyone's brain works the same. Some people take longer to memorize what can seem like dozens and dozens of random numbers. So what is wrong with having a little trick to get by, if that works for you? By repeatedly using this method, students will get the right answer, which will help solidify it in their brains to the point at which it does become rote.

For some people who have trouble with nine's tables. 9×0=0 9×1=9 9×2=18 9×3=27 9×4=36 9×5=45 9×6=54 9×7=63 9×8=72 9×9=81 9×10=90 Notice? In the ones places in all of the products, it starts from subtracting 1. In the tens place, it's adding 1. ------------------------------------------------------ 9×11=99 9×12=108 9×13=117 9×13=126 9×14=135 9×15=144 9×16=153 ------------------------------------------------------ Not sure if these ones are correct, but you should get the idea.

You can use your fingers for this. Just put one finger down. The fingers to the left are the tens place and to the right the ones. An oldie but a goodie.

Saw this advertised on tv commercials back in the 1970s, they said it was a korean method called “chismbop” but I never knew how it worked until seeing this video. Well, except for 9s... I think back then someone showed me that you can multiply 9 times any lower number super easy in a similar way without doing any adding or multiplying. Number your fingers 1 thru 10 and hold them out... put down the finger you’re multiplying by (so, if 9 x 2, put down finger number 2) ... now there’s one finger remaining up to the left of finger number 2 and there are 8 fingers remaining up on the right side of finger number 2 ... so the answer is 18. This works for anything from 9 x 1 to 9 x 9.

I memorized the Times Table when I was in the 5th grade. They were always printed on the notebooks that you buy to write in. You can't forget it because you keep using it over and over again. I'm 89 years old and the Times Table are branded on my forehead. I can't see it, but my brains can.

To do the 9 times table simply hold all 10 fingers out and count along the number you want to multiply by and then the numbers before are 10s and the ones after are units so for example 9 x 3. Count 3 fingers along, flip it down 2 before and 7 after the finger makes 27. 9 x 7. Count along flip down the seventh 6 before 3 after = 63.

For the nines I use Jaime Escalate's (played by Edward James Olmos) trick in Stand And Deliver. Count to the finger you want to multiply by 9 and bend it down slightly. Example: from left hand 3x9, count three fingers and bend it down. The remaining fingers 2 on left hand and 7 on right hand are your answer. Do the same for the rest of your nines.
