You were not having bad luck. The mines are per planet, so all of the resources of the first planet are in the first mine. You will always have to choose which resource you want from the planet from the same mine. The good news is that, fro, what I saw as you scrolled, when you find a new resource, even if it is just one, you can instantly select it to be mined to get more. More mines make them work faster. You do have some gold jewelry in the bank. It's kind of funny how trash seems to sell better than jewelry now that it's all fully upgraded. I think it's because trash drops more resources per block? I'm glad you were able to find that third power crystal at a decent depth

You could use the thermite on long patches with no resources to save on trips up.
