Boy, it's beginning to look like the diamond ore generation settings have been tweaked... lol Not really, you just chose a good spot to set your base.

I even went back to check the mods in the pack, and nothing there to account for the diamond generation. This is one thing fun about the way I start in MC -- there's always something unique and interesting.
