The Minecraft 1.21 snapshot 24w10a for Minecraft Java edition released today. I will show you all the additions, changes and fixes added to this snapshot! This snapshot adds 8 new wolf variants to minecraft! The original wolf is now the pale wolf, which spawns in the taiga. Then the new variants are the woods wolf (forest), ashen wolf (snowy taiga), black wolf (old growth pine taiga), chestnut wolf (old growth spruce taiga), rusty wolf (sparse jungle), spotted wolf (savanna plateau), striped wolf (wooded badlands) and the snowy wolf (grove). The snowy wolf is a rare wolf variant!

Fun fact: The rusty wolf, spotted wolf and striped wolf are bsed on the dhole, african wild dog and striped hyena respectively

The dhole and painted dogs are canids but the hyena is more closeley related to cats.

Not only do we have wolf variants, but they all spawn in unique biomes, giving more life to the world. They did the same thing with the Bogged and I'm liking the extra mile Mojang has been going recently.

I wish they reference that if a white snow Wolf spawns in the Grove there is a chance to get a bigger one which could reference a direwolf. Kind of Like the blue axolotl or the screaming goat

My problem here is hyenas (the striped wolf is clearly a striped hyena) aren't related to dogs AT ALL. Hyenas are their own family in the feliformia suborder. Also, African wild dogs and Ussuri dholes (spotted wolf and rusty wolf) aren't closely related enough to breed with any other canines and have a very slender build.

The Black Wolf is a wolf in Minecraft: Dungeons that is never seen, but is mentioned. I believe it was also mentioned to be rare.

So unexpected! I was not expecting new wolf variants! I have different feelings about this addition, but I feel like after awhile, it will be a very cool addition to the world of Minecraft! Great video like always! (Also, I think the Ashen wolf has to be my favorite so far!)

One wolf type I would really like to see is a dingo inspired wolf that would spawn in desert biomes and would have a similar texture to the desert rabbits that spawn there

I experimented this myself and if the Black Wolf variant gets mad and his eyes turn red, it looks creepy as ever, especially in a deep dark cave or something!

Probably not. They will probably be the same as biome specific villager types. You'll have to either spawn them with commands or go to the actual biome
