Another idea: With the F3 debug screen, you can see the total number of entities, the number of entities rendered, and the number of entities that are not on screen. Lightning increments the number of entities rendered, but does not increment the total number of entities. Because of this, the number of entities that are not on screen, according to the debug screen, can be negative. Line of debug screen referenced (in a world with no other entities, and in 1st person view): E: 0/1 I: 1 If 2 lightning bolts are on screen however, it will look like this: E: 2/1 I: -1 The first number in E: 2/1 indicates the number of entities on screen, the second number is the total number of entities, and the number after "I" indicates the number of entities that are not on screen. Sorry for the horrifically long comment, but I thought some people might want to know this.

It would have been nice if you included the radius of the blast and such. We just had a strike in the middle of a villager farm. The 20 or so witches upstairs were dealt with mostly by the golems, but 4 villagers who were under ground actually got hit as well. (Seems from the wiki to extend down 3)

The charged creeper explosion / heads thing is ridiculously and frustratingly too rare. I've been playing MC for 4+ years, and only ever saw a creeper get struck with lightning twice. Even the mojang dev who did this tweeted that perhaps he made the conditions to collect mob heads in vanilla too difficult/rare to accomplish.

I think it's possible with these commands. Although, it would be glitchy in multiplayer and it wouldn't use attacking the mob. It would be with right clicking a carrot on a stick, and it would hurt the nearest mob to you within 10 blocks. So, here it goes. First, set up a scoreboard: */scoreboard objectives add Lightning stat.useItem.minecraft.carrot_on_a_stick* Then, create a 20 times per second clock. If you don't know how, there are plenty of tutorials on youtube. On the clock, place command blocks(*/give @p command_block*) with these commands. Make sure they are activated in order. To find out which order they are in, press f3, and figure out which direction the clock is in. Command blocks with the most negative coordinates activate first: */execute @a[score_Lightning_min=1] ~ ~ ~ execute @e[score_Lightning=0,r=10,c=1] ~ ~ ~ summon LightningBolt ~ ~ ~* */scoreboard players set @e Lightning -1* Again, I haven't tested this, and it -might-*will* lag your world if you have a bad computer. I will test it, and I will get right back to you. *EDIT:* Yeah. This causes *a lot* of lag in your world. I do not recommend this unless either you have a really good computer, or there aren't very many entities in your world. I have _two_ alternatives, that I will list here. This first one is *not* multiplayer compatible. It will still work in multiplayer, but not on other players. Only on mobs. Start the same way creating the scoreboard objective and the clock, but do the other things differently. What happens if you (the player), ahh, you just answered my question! I nearly got hit twice by lightning last night, 4 blocks ahead of me struck into flames, then 2 blocks to my diagonal left struck into flames; didn't think it would hit you, or kill you! Another fact - if it hits a skeleton archer, it will spawn a skeleton archer mounted on a skeleton horse! The first (and only) time this happened to me there were two of them and I was like WTF is going on!! What are those, had to kill them before I really got chance to look at them! :D
