The world getting corrupted is the Perlin Noise Generator (which is what is used to generate the world in minecraft) being affected

i might actually be able to provide an answer to the mystery of this funky terrain gen!! :D So minecraft uses three noisemaps that overlay on each other to terrain gen, and these noisemaps incrementally increase every chunk, its the reason we had the farlands in 1.8 and prior, as well as the radial end terrain drop-off in modern versions! Funny enough, this noisemap issue also occurs on the vertical axis, but normal minecraft would never see this because of the height limit; however, in world edit, its easy to bring these integers down to even double digit values. As for the rock terrain missing dirt, that probably has to do with the sequencing of terrain gen! In order, it goes: stone, dirt grass and sand, trees bushes and flowers, cave systems and ores and then structures. I've seen mods before that disallow terrain gen past stone. If this is a mod, its very possible the modders are ant venom fans...
