Sorry for piggybacking on your comment, but Jordan: The explosions you see in space are from the fuel inside the ship combusting. The reason it burns is due to the oxygen in the surrounding escaping air. And the reason it lasts a long time is due to the sheer amount of fuel and air. Hope this helps.

For those that think it's impossible for fire to exist in outer space (outside a space station kind of setting) then I got news for you! You need to look up self-oxidizing reactions, they provide their own oxygen for the combustion to take place (I believe Greek fire works this way but I know thermite definitely does), thermite comes packed with oxygen that it releases as it burns (some matchsticks use this as well) the reaction speed is slower without an oxygenated atmosphere to help power it but for thermite it still gets enough power to arc weld under water (they use it on those big oil rigs in the ocean for welding underwater). The more you know!

Explosions in space movies happen because there's oxygen inside the ship. As the ship explodes the explosion feeds off that oxygen. It's dramatized as the explosions wouldn't be that large or last as long, but still

explosions CAN happen in space under vacuum,if a spaceship have liquid oxygen (or any oxidiser) with the fuel like liquid hydrogen (or other fuel) then you can have an explosions(and SOUND! since the oxygen is escaping,but if you can hear the explosion then you pretty much dead!)
