Yo, this observation really meshes with the fact that the Devs have being putting a lot of time into adding functionality for systematic dimension & terrain generation. Even right now there are experimental features that allow players to write JSON files that anyone can load via in-game gui that causes the game to make new dimensions with custom generation, and all one needs is a admin command to teleport into the custom world. I think you are spot on, why else spend all this time refactoring this feature?

Lads, its gonna be the skulk dimension with a massive boss which killed off the army you here in disc 5. The skulk spread and killed off all the mobs but also corrupted the wardens the people made and turned them into these skulk creatures. Wardens using their distant memory of defending its people now guard the portal making sure no one else release it again. I kinda hope the new boss includes many new mechanics.

I think the disc "Otherside" also has something to do with the dimension as well, simply because of its title. I like to believe that the new dimension's name is just "Otherside" similar to how the End and the Nether are just words instead of actual names.

@@9nikolai Sure but I think they meant that they are essentially 'named' after their relation to the overworld. Nether just means 'under' or 'below', as canonically it is located underneath the bedrock layer in the overworld. (Even the fact that we call the overworld, the overworld. Again, in relation to the nether). The end is named after the fact that it is where the end of the game is located, and also because it represents the outer reaches of the minecraft world. Naming the new dimension something like 'Eclipsia' or 'Achlys' would be jarring

Purgatory is depicted as a prison, plus the Sculk theme seems to be tied with sounds and death because Sculk only ever spreads when something dies. Warden looks like something that serves as security creature - it appears only on alarm trigger (shrieker, and it's setting off only if an presumeable living form is nearby and is creating noise), is very tanky in terms of health, and able to take down player covered in strongest gear with couple strikes. It even drops nothing. It's the only inhabitant monster in this biome, and it's not even wandering around. Warden does not want you to come any closer to the center structure, it doesn't want to you to be around at all. It's like car alarm, yeah sure you can walk around, but don't touch anything. And here Warden is, protecting something that we are currently unaware of.

If anything, the rename shows that the portal WAS planned at one point, but it's no longer a portal. You want an alternative explanation? To support this even further, the concept art for the trypophobia sculk literally says "The sculk could be a texture disease that creates these hole clusters and corrupt blocks, REVEALING THE DARK VOID OF 'THE HOLLOW' through their disgusting holes." The developers were toying with the idea of another dimension, even with the early sculk concepts, and now that we know theres a portal I think its safe to assume that there will probably be another dimention, even if it isnt in the upcoming wild update or called the hollow.

I really hope they do add one because at the moment there doesn't seem like much of a reason to explore a deep dark city, the only unique item is a pair of boots with the new swift sneak enchantment, as the sculk blocks can easily be obtained in the outer portions of the biome without having to venture into the cities.

Also another big thing is that the developers have kept delaying the deep dark. It was supposed to be released in 1.17, but now it won’t be fully released until 1.19. Why is it taking them so long? Maybe because they’ve been secretly working on a new dimension this entire time.

The deep dark is a lore structure, even the warden. The special part about it is how you get into the redstone room, the small portal statue clue easily could be a name, aswell as a jokingly funny name that was taken out of proportion. Also mojang said they would never add any more dimensions, or atleast for a long time.

I saw an interview with one of the developers several years ago (sorry, I don't remember who), and someone asked when a new dimension would be added. The answer was basically, "when we're satisfied with the dimensions we already have." This was before the Nether update, and since then we have seen dramatic overhauls of both the Nether and the Overworld. I would predict that the End will be next, along with more content being added to a few more Overworld biomes like the desert. After that, we'll finally see a new dimension.

I would like to point out that what could be be stairs going up to the "Portal" is bigger than any player to use normally, A block taller that is. This could imply that whatever is in this potential biome is MUCH bigger than us. And even though the Portal Statue is now just put to the file name Statue, guess what? Security Breach's Princess Quest character had the file name Cassidy (If you Know you know) so sometimes names or things are changed so that it's not "too" obvious on what they are.

If this structure actually does lead to a new dimension, I doubt it will come out this update. The Mc devs already have their plates fill updating most biomes and introducing the deep dark. It also has been already stated that no new dimensions would be added before the end gets some improvements. It is still possible that we get some sort of soul based dimension, but it’s not likely coming any time too soon.

There’s currently nothing to do there other then wander aimlessly until you find an End City. No interesting sights to see along the way or anything, just one terrain block, one plant, and one mob. As Minecraft Dungeons demonstrated, there’s still so much that can be done with the End. And yeah, the End has been updated before… so what? The Nether got updates prior to 1.16, but the Nether Update was still sorely needed.

I'm gonna take a shot in the dark and say that the Portal has to be activated by a specific item that can only be found in Archeological sites. Therefore the Wild dimension wont come until the Archeology update arrives.

I think that would be so cool. It also occurred to me as well, but at the same time someone suggested a while ago that along with archeology they could do a structure update where they update all of the old structures, which I think I like more. So I think I want them to just wait to add the new dimension until they have updated all the existing biomes and the end and caught up on everything they promised. I honestly don't mind waiting a few years for the portal to have a function so that they can do it all right and give everything the love it deserves.

its entirely possible that we wont be getting another dimension this update... they can add the portal without a way to light it, and just add the dimension itself (and a way to access it) in another update... honestly i think it would be kind of funny if they had a small 'major' update in the future and they just... snuck a new dimension in there without telling us. but its also entirely possible that the portal is never going to open, and its supposed to be some terrible thing that was closed off permenantly because it was so dangerous or smth. also minecraft could be pranking us with the statue i wouldn't put it past them.

If they do, that would be great. However, I imagine that it would take an insane amount of time to plan, design, code and test a new dimension so it can actually feel like part of the game. So, should they do it? Absolutely! Nevertheless, I would rather wait another 3 years to play something good than to play a rushed dimension that feels improvised, and empty, for next year.

Do you think it's weird there's now an apparent portal in the Deep Dark biome which appears with ancient city structures in large caverns deep in the overworld and that previously there was a mod with an item called Deep Dark Portal which transported the player to the Deep Dark dimension where one found large, dark caverns?

One possibility is that this is a boss summoning mechanic. Perhaps this is a one way portal that will spawn a climactic battle sequence when certain conditions are met. I'm probably overthinking it though, and it could just be another fairly empty dimension being added.

I think that even if The Wilds dimension isn't added in this update, it might be added in the next or future updates. It might just be a placeholder for future ideas similar to how the fletching table and other similar tables didn't have an actual use until they added their usage in future updates.

if they are, my guess is that The Wild Update will be laying the groundwork for the way to enter the new dimension while they work on natural dangers, biomes, mobs and possibly ores or variations on vanilla ores (would be cool for this theorized dimension to be an exact flip of the Overworld where diamonds are more common than Iron the higher you go) and let the theory pot stir a bit more to draw more hype for when it is announced, plus I honestly think they should update The End before adding a whole new dimension

The sculk is definitely some kind of supernatural fungus. The stuff literally feeds off of death, much like how real life fungus grows from decay. We also see that Ancient Cities have Soulflame Lanterns in them. It seems like the Ancient Cities were experimenting with death and souls. Conclusion? These guys were totally Necromancers and I blame them for the zombies and skeletons.

Deep dark biome is far more frequent than the ancient cities. There are many deep dark biome patches that don't have an ancient city in them (but the reverse is true: ancient cities can be found only in deep dark biome).

One of other interesting things is that... Sculk does convert XP from dying mobs to more of itself, but... It now exists only in Deep Dark, and Deep Dark has no mobs, so for the time being growth of Sculk is... Almost impossible in natural conditions. It's suspicious for such an elaborated mechanic to not matter in normal gameplay. So I really think that sculk has something even more ambitious to do with it, and that Mojang doesn't want to spoil it heavily, and this in particular will connect presence of mobs and presence of sculk in one place, which is impossible in overworld by now

I think the skulk being there just implies that what used to live there died and caused all the skulk to spread (Which is something the devs implied when the deep dark was revealed) But I think the lack of mobs there is mainly a gameplay thing to prevent Wardens from being spawned 24/7 from Zombies and stuff walking around. But I'm sure it has a lore reason, like the skulk being a fungus that everything wants to avoid or something

The underwater monuments also sort of fit that same theme of the nether portal leaking into the OW, or just the obsidian frame in the nether once one in the OW is lit. Prismarine seems like an otherworldly material, and yes a few blocks can be found in uw ruins but that also has no OW source. So there is MC precedent for a structure with a unique and unexplainable origin that does not appear to be related to a dimensional portal. To add I think the UW monument is the most mysterious structure currently in MC.

The fact that prismarine doesn't exist in our world either reaffirms that. There are plenty of real world "water stones," or stones that are named after the water like aquamarine that they could have used, but they didn't. Also guardians spawn in UWM, so there isn't really a lore source for prismarine, because it isn't naturally created by the world. It seems to have been created by whoever built the monuments (and maybe genetically engineered guardians) or come from somewhere else. It would make sense if guardian bones were prismarine and when they died it settled and formed the layers of prismarine. Imagine finding caves made of prismarine where the guardians have lived for so long and deep in those caves is where you find the elder guardians or basically queens. That would make sense for them to be the source of prismarine in that case (also, be really cool). But the only place they spawn is in a very much intelligently constructed structure, and the fish that dwell their are called guardians, which means their purpose is for the structure, not the other way around. So the actual source of prismarine is left completely mysterious. Now I really want them to dive deeper into the lore of this...

I don't think that it will lead to a new dimension in 1.19. Here's why: I know that somewhere, Mojang has said that they do not want to add a new dimension until they flesh out all the old ones. The End desperately needs an update. It doesn't make sense for them to add an entirely new dimension. It will just push back against the End getting updated, which I'm sure that Mojang wants.

@@chucklesdeclown8819 The Nether was only updated (technically) one major update ago (counting Caves and Cliffs part 1 and 2 as the same update, because they added the same type of content). The Nether Was probably a higher priority for Mojang, because more players go there. Then, caves and cliffs and swamp were biome vote candidates, which is why I think they're doing it before the End. Also, the reason I think that the End needs an update is because the ONLY reason players EVER go there is for the elytra and shulker boxes. And now, with the addition of shulker farms, you only need to go once to move the shulker to the overworld. Mojang likes the things that they add to be relevant to the whole game, not just for a couple of hours after you defeat the dragon. I see so much potential for cool end-game stuff in that dimension, and I'm sure Mojang does too. It just doesn't make sense to add an entirely new dimension when one of the existing dimensions is so utterly boring. Better flesh out the content that they have before they add new stuff.

Technically the End already got its update with the Combat Update. It added the End Cities and Elytras... I don't think the Deep Dark will lead to a new dimension in this exact update, but I do believe we'll see this become a dimension before getting a End Update because it already got its update. I mean the whole purpose of the update is to add endgame gear which is the Elytra, and the Nether already beat the End when it comes to stuff like armor and a weapon. What else could you really do? How much more powerful should you actually get? I think the End has served it's purpose as a finale to you're adventure, boring or not imo...

In a lore perspective, i think so but i dont think it will be activateable. The new disc might describe in one bit the portal being opened while the ancient builders are being chased by a wither. You hear sculk detecting sound and the warden being summoned from across the portal. Then he kills the wither and infects this world.

There's a few things wrong with this idea. Yeah, there's an ancient city in every deep dark biome because the deep dark biome is made specifically for it and for the warden to spawn somewhere without other mobs that would make noise and distract it. And Mojang developers have said that there won't be a new dimension until they're happy with all three we have right now. So I assume there would be an End update first (unless they're happy with its current state which would be sad). A new dimension definitely won't be in 1.19 because they would have announced it last year plus it's way too much work to keep it a secret for a version which is supposed to come out in a few months. I also don't think they'd make it possible to break these blocks if it was a portal to another dimension (since it's not renewable like obsidian and if you break it, you'd lose access to the dimension which would be dumb).

I agree, the end is pretty lacking in terms of features, there’s only 3 mobs besides the dragon (one of which rarely ever spawns and is only useful for enderman grinders) and the terrain is made up of literally 2 types of block and one plant species.

I think that the "portal" is a prototype for the end portal because if you look at the portal block (not the frame, the block) it looks almost identical to the skulk. Which means that who ever built the end portal was in the deep dark first. And I think the reason it's in the deep dark (the skulk) is because it will probably end up fading in high light levels, and not because it's from the "portal", although it could be the reason the warden exists. I don't think they will make a new dimension for lore reasons. Kinda like how there was definitely a war with piglyns.The lore is long enough to pretty much have it's own bible at this point. And this would mean that the statue is like a small scale version of the big one, for testing or just concept idk.

I really like your speculation. The evidence definitely implies a new dimension is coming. HOWEVER, I think they said they won't add any new dimensions until they update ALL the dimensions. The Nether already had a massive update so what's left is the end, and since the end dlc of Minecraft dungeons appeared we pretty much have a good concept of what the end update it'll be (idk if most of the end mobs in the dlc are natural or are mobs that transformed into Lovecraftian like monsters because of the orb of dominance, who knows). So yeah, if we're gonna have a new dimension the devs have to update the end first, and maybe they'll update the nether again eventually if they want. Also, the way you invision the new dimension through the thumbnail... Yeah it'll be literally hell to get past wardens and keep crouching the entire time lol. Remember the warden we currently have is not up to its true potential and they'll give it an ability to *prevent players from just stacking up and attacking it*. We have yet to see the Warden as the true beast it's supposed to be.

I think the ancient city people were guarding or worshipping whatever was behind the portal. But the warden is either from the dimension or the one infected first. They could have been sent to see what was beyond the portal. Also, it says on the enchant table "the warden is not what it seems" and "the axolotls is not what it seems" meaning it could be alien or from the world spreading the sculk.

I think by far the most likely scenario is we do not get a new dimension in this update. The portal is there to help tell the Sculk's story, add mystery, and hint at lore. The Nether is fresh enough after 1.16 and the End still needs some serious love. This portal might lead to a new dimension some day, but I think that's in the distant future if it's the case. The Wild update seemed to have a focus on the overworld, and a new dimension now would overshadow that.

Personally, I believe that the portal could actually be a reliable, 2-way portal to the End, which could be activated with something found only in the End, meaning that you have to find the stronghold & defeat the ender dragon first. My guess is that the Wild Update could also secretly be an End update, adding more wilderness to that barren dimension.

That one April fools update with infinite* dimensions along with being able to now write your own .JSON files to make working dimensions has lead me to believe that we were going to eventually get a new dimension. It very likely has been in consideration and slowly worked on in the spare time for a long while, making sure it wouldn't break anything. Work on it however probably hasn't really picked up until recently. Mojang has been doing a lot of work to the code in behind the scenes. Code that effects the game in ways no one will actually see, but is very much needed to bring in bigger things like a new dimension. Remember how 1.16 brought the ability to have different biomes on the y axis? Ibxtoycat realized that. We just now see the payoff to that years later.

I think there's another boss on the other side. A warden is a person who stops people from escaping a prison, so it would make sense if the warden was trying to stop you from opening the portal and letting something out. Maybe this thing on the other side is capable of spreading sculk to the entire overworld. Why else would the most powerful mob in the game be here, killing anything that comes near the city.

I think we’re going to get three or four more updates before we get to it. There’s a combat update coming very soon, and they said they will finish fixing and updating the whole overworld before adding a new dimension. From what I can tell, desert needs an update along with maybe plains and forests(?). There’s also maybe an archeological update coming, though it might come with one of the other updates like it was supposed to come with caves. I imagine it will come after the archeological update because it would make sense if we find an item or something through archeology that activates the portal.

I agree that the city center structure is a portal and that it almost certainly leads to another dimension, but I'm of the mindset that we'll never actually be able to go there. Maybe the technology to activate the portal is lost, but I personally prefer the idea that it's physically impossible for us to survive in that world. To me, the warden and skulk in general remind me of the Erebus from Runescape, a universe so toxic to normal life that merely standing close to a portal to that dimension leeches your soul from your body.
