If you're into model railroading, we categorize switches as #4, #6, #8, etc. A #8 switch, for example, indicates a ration of 8 to 1 in how sharp the angle is. Also, starting a curve shallow and increasing it is called an "easement." Just thought you'd like to know :-)

I use stairs, they are a lot thinner on the top and you can have cleaner turns by just changing the direction of the stairs
