Sonic, you can mine gold ore without silktouch to get the ore itself. In order to get a ingot, you need to smelt it. Same goes for iron, but some modpacks may change that. But in vanilla yeah, you don't need silktouch for both gold and iron. You need to smelt it to get the ingot in a furnace.

Silk touch on bread still won't mine redstone or lapis ore. You still need a pick.

Each ore is dependent on the tool. So a silk touch wooden pick can mine coal, and stone.

I5 is rushed I had a funny idéa for Beef's area but it didn't work out when I finished it but I didn't feel like re-doing the entire area so I went with it because I also wanted the map out because I was really excited to see people play it. Because I have other stuff to do such as RotM 2. First I'd just have to do the area which would probably take two days. Release the update wait for feedback then update once again for the balance to be good. People are just upset because it's Beef, it's not someone else. Pretty much nobody complained about Britain's sewer which is a shitty area but it's Baj's so nobody cares. So it's just a fanboy problem right here and it doesn't really bother me.
