Yea, I agree. I always hated game theory, and sadly, I stopped watching THE SCIENCE content when Austin moved over there since it wasn't on a channel I was recommended anymore and I wasn't subbing to game theory just for one narrator. I'm glad he's back here. I just hope that all the changes Austin made has the effect he wanted them to, whether it be more time for family, more time for himself, or more time spent on projects he wants to do instead of what bigger players tell him to do all day. I just hope it makes him happy in the end.

"Gravity" would be different between the center and the edges of the flat plane. For example, the center of the plane would be closer to the center of rotation, lowering the centripetal force, and thus the perceived gravity (compared to other regions of the plane). The edges would be the opposite, where "gravity" would be higher. A Halo shape fixes this by bending the plane (which then, is no longer flat) so that every part of it is the same distance from what it orbits.
@SpontaneousProcess
@SpontaneousProcess Жыл бұрын
I think the world could be curved around the center without becoming non-flat (assuming that we’re willing to allow “flat” and “planar” to be two different things). As long as it’s not an orb, toroid, cylinder, cube, or some sort of other closed polyhedron, I think we could say it’s flat.
@Starnite_
@Starnite_ Жыл бұрын
@@SpontaneousProcess or if the sun and moon both orbit the world, then make the world orbit from some point really far out, you could make the forces the same more or less across the whole plane. so lets say a distance from the black hole sagitarius a to the earth and a plane the size of a minecraft world would be more like a point on a theoretical circle. to counter balance so as to not need as strong and impossible anchor either the nether or another world could be on the same spinning axis but opposite the world. as said the sun and moon would be tethered off of the minecraft world then and not typical to how its in our world. we also dont know the gravity on either so they can be flat planes closer to the world

I'd love more Minecraft videos, just maybe not ones discussing whether it's flat or not. But there's still so much to analyse, like how does the Warden's sense of hearing and smell compare to real world animals? How to debunk the ludicrous cosmology in this video in 3 easy steps: 1) Start a new Minecraft world 2) Start punching trees, as one does in a new Minecraft world 3) Notice that the upper logs do not fall when the ones below are removed, thereby proving that gravity as we know it IRL does not apply here and thus the entire latter half of the video working from premises of IRL gravity physics is entirely inapplicable.

You can create a nonspherical gravitational field by having matter underneath the bedrock. More of it is on the edges to counter the inwards pull of gravity. You'd also have to account for the corners. Given that we don't see matter under bedrock, it's possible that it's in the form of black holes being contained.

well the number i got for p = (32m/s/s) / (2pi*384 meters*G) is a mean column density of about 200,000 g/cc, ten million times the mean density of a supermassive black hole. so it could also be that the minecraft world is much thicker than we can see since we can't dig through bedrock and there's just way more stuff under there.

I have one small correction for something that always gets under my skin: centrifugal force does not exist. The gravity in this scenario is caused by inertia. The only acceleration is inward, being the centripetal acceleration due to the rope things. The issue is the sun wouldn't look the same at sunrise and sunset. The nearest edge to the sun it would look different to the furthest edge. I always thought the walls at the edge of the world were just separating different parts of the world so they wouldn't need to match. I.e there is another walled of section of the world next to ours but we can't access it. But that also presents its own issues.

Watching the video and beginning a little after 8:00 I hear “Neptune, the Mystic.” What a beautiful peace of music, along with the other pieces in The Planets. It’s one of my favorite pieces of music overall. It captures so much about how we characterize each planet, and Uranus and Neptune having names of sort of mystical beings is cool, as we didn’t know the specifics about them except how they orbited our Sun and had moons (only 1 in Neptune’s case).

32m/s² is terminal velocity in earth's atmosphere. Anyway, gravity in most video games (minecraft included) isn't a result of mass. It's just downward force applied to objects. Usually there is a modifier that is univerally applied to all objects, but can be modified independently by individual object, object types, areas of the map, etc... this happens even in games set in space, where gravity is effectively zero, and the physics engine really only has to account for velocity and momentum.

I might be oversimplifying this A LOT however, the sun and moon could act as a binary star system. Though instead of two stars it a star and a moon(obviously). Also might be a stretch but if the minecraft world was orbiting a blackhole(bedrock facing the blackhole) just strong enough to hold the world at the same constant distance(which would explain the player taking damage past bedrock) while the sun and moon still acting as a binary star system would that be plausible?

The speed of light isn't actually a problem for an accelerating reference frame as a method of pseudo-gravity generation. This is because you were using Newtonian mechanics to calculate how acceleration works, and then expecting it to respect relativity. Instead, if you actually used special relativity, you would find that accelerating at 32 m/s/s continuously is possible, it's just that doing so won't get you to light speed. The energy problem that somehow fuels this acceleration would still be a problem, because there's no particular lore-accurate source of such movement. I think it'd make more sense to just add mass to the sheet of rock such that the normal gravity works as experimentally shown. This would require an extremely dense layer of mass at the bottom of the world (to pull stuff down appropriately), and probably to extend the edges of the world out long past the 60 milllion width (to make the gravity still point down 30 million blocks from 0,0, rather than towards 0,0)

Centrifugal Force is not a thing. It IS NOT A FORCE. It’s an application of inertia, not in of itself a force, but the result of the CENTRIPETAL FORCE yanking it toward the center of a rotating axis while Inertia wants to fling it into a straight line in the direction of motion. This results in Centrifugal Inertia, the thing many still call a force, but it is NOT.

I said this before when the other video came out ages ago but like you said at 11:17 the acceleration depends on how far you are from the center. So the amount you calculate would be at the location closest to the center. As you move in any direction you are increasing your distance from that point the acceleration from the spin doesn't really point towards the ground. Also the direction of gravity would be different if you went in the x direction compared to the z direction. Spinning works on a small scale or when the distance between the center spin and the plate is big compared to the plate size.

This is a pretty good explanation of the physics that could make a Minecraft world theoretically possible. However, the issues that arise stem from a few things: 1) if the sun is fixed to the center you'd still see a slight difference in where the sun is located in the sky unless perfectly tangential to both the rising and falling edges (dawn/dusk). This fix is easy though by assuming the sun is far enough away that the differences in locations on the surface equate to a fraction of an arc minute. 2) The moon would have issues rotating around a flat square as the effects of gravity from the planet increase the closer it gets to the surface (the edges in this case). The moon would have an irregular orbit around the world which would cause an overlapping moon and sun within a few days depending on its average proximity to the surface. 3) This delves into the physics a bit more, but what makes a sphere model work so well is the uniform gravity and pressure that prevent the planet from both collapsing in on itself and losing its material to the gravitational pull of the sun. A flat planet would mean there's no pressure to balance out the gravity, this all of our material would just fly off into space the moment we started moving. There are somewhat "flat" objects that do exist in space, those primarily being spiral galaxies. However there still isn't an explanation of what exactly is adding the missing 95% of the mass which prevents the galaxy from behaving "normally". Great video and excellent job with the physics! If you ever return to the flat Minecraft theory it'd be interesting to see how you expand your model to cover more complex dynamics at play.

9:45 they wouldn't just go through? Like with after a tornado where we can find strands of hay inside cement blocks with no other damage to either? Or be forced around like when there's an air current around a speeding vehicle the smaller particles in the surrounding air get caught up in the current and whip around the car? ... >_> 'course a car is rounded and bigger particles like rocks DO hit windshields, but I'm just curious if there are other more anomalous outcomes at higher and higher speeds
