I guess Sonic got absorbed into the orb and he was transported to another world that's how it happened when he and silver were trying to get rid of the orb apparently Sonic got absorbed into it and he was never seen again so that's how he got transported to the other Green Hill zone

Like how Rouge was in the first series. It's a bit of a fanfiction headcanon I came up with. Zeena has shown attraction to Sonic in the games, so it makes sense.
