I've played the Witness, and the ending to that is even worse. The puzzles are truly random, not just selected from a few.

having played "The witness" I can tell you two things about the "challenge" : 1. it's frustrating and can take a very long time to master. 2. you were correct in cutting the music. it can (and will probably) get muted on twitch. nothing bad but it just gets rid of the timer for the viewers (since the music is the timer here) basically which sucks.

Yeah basically every level of this was a part of the Witness - that's why the sound ones were there with all the distractions and such, and where the bridge and perspective things (really basically every mechanic) comes from. Also the ending, which is also the hall of the mountain king in there too, but in the real game's case it's a much harder and longer thing where there's like a cover of it that plays first (including an annoying "guess which puzzle is actually possible and then do that one" part)

The second I saw the disc was "In the Hall of the Mountain King" I new we were in for a fun time. Really adds to have the song going in the background while Jordan plays.

not being able to place on background wasn't the best design choice imo, but i guess it's because they can't code it to every single background block and they wanted to vary it, or they meant for the placing of blocks to be a puzzle too (but didn't lean into that concept hard enough for it to be a mechanic more than an inconvenience)

Partially I think it's because in the Witness your drawing in a continuous line and if you let go the puzzle resets and their trying to have the same sought of thing in this map.

@@nixseras9249 ah i mean yeah maybe that makes sense, but imo if they wanted to stick with it they should have made the timer more generous, so that figuring out the final puzzles didn't seem like a game of try to figure out how to scale this puzzle or you'll get timed out even when you know the solution

They definitely did that because it was supposed to imitate how you do puzzles in The Witness, but it doesn't work here because you actually have to move around and place the blocks down. It just makes the puzzles annoying, like having a not easy to access spot where you need to place blocks, and having that stay the same for the final level where you're on a time limit is just bad design lol

I don't appreciate the final game mechanic that makes you rush, I wouldn't enjoy it if I was playing, but I do appreciate the music choice. In the Hall of the Mountain King is a classic.

The part of this map that triggers me the most is the fact that the cap was only about 10-15 seconds away from finishing the last bit several times, and yet, if you rewind those rounds, you'll find the cap complaining more that 30 seconds about not being able to place blocks on the snow. Like dude, you literally would have finished the map several tries ago if you had just played the map instead of complaining. Sometimes you just have to focus on the game instead of trying to create content. It was truly annoying

haven't finished watching it yet but having played it: it was very tight (I had some time left but also had 5/6 easiest puzzles) and it would have been a lot less frustrating if you could place the blocks on the background. Edit: in all honesty: he doesn't complain that much and it definitely doesn't distract him from the puzzling.
