Minecraft - Tutorial: Blaze XP Farm

This tutorial teaches you how to build a Blaze XP Farm like the one I built in my LP World. Blaze Farms are an excellent source of XP because Blaze give double the XP most mobs give. It's also a quick way to collect Blaze Rods for potion brewing and fuel.

2 years later... still the best design out there. As he said the wall pistons aren't required for the build so its also less resource intensive. You can update the lava on top with dispensers now, and change the repeater chain timer to a hopper timer. Great little build. Awesome!

You could use glass for the pistons that isn't the crusher... so they don't take damage.. this is still the best blaze farm ever. even now in 1.7.9 i added a hopper timer instead of the repeaters and it works awesome. FYI 24 items for single player and 23 items for servers to crush blaze to 1 hit kills

By the way, the two buttons are labelled with signs: "Squish!" And "Moar!" Kinda sad the on/off lever is up for off, which is counter-intuitive. But, it's the Nether, where the bedrock is in the ceiling!

They take their time piling up but the xp can't be beat. This is an awesome design and I can turn it off if I want to hunt Magma Slimes! That's the best part. That and all the xp trickling in.

A very good Tutorial, Etho, I just finished it in Survival, it took me about 6 hours total, but it was well worth it! Keeping the video up while I was doing the build was very helpful when it came to the noir-latches... the foundation for the stonework is a little hard to lay out if you don't know what your doing! Is the kill area of this build within the 16 blocks to activate the spawner or do you have to afk higher up? Seen another design that is much less resource intensive but you have to afk on a platform higher up then the kill area...so that is a pain.

Find a slime chunk and clear out 16x16 area at level 20. Then make a narrow(1block wide) hidey hall 5 blocks deep(2blocks high) so that you dont get crushed by big ones. Soon, you will get more slime balls than you know what to do with.

Etho i loved this tutorial and it works on x box and ps3. But you can make the redstone part more clear or make the blocks while your talking. It took me about 4 hours because of this. Anyway i love your videos and make more LP's and keep ethoing people Etho!

so i have build this on the 360 and it worked perfectly, until that is we got an update last week and the blazes now spawn randomly everywhere, is there a fix for this or do i have to build new one with new dimensions to stop the spawning. they spawn as far as 20-30 blocks away from the spwaners randomly annywhere in the nether fortress. anny suggestions?

there was an update a week or two ago. they spawn in a 9x9 area around the spawner. however, they were spawning EVERYWHERE. whether it was lit up correctly or not. they were basically spawning inside the farm for the first couple of kills and then they spawned everywhere except the spawner. you have to tear it all down and rebuild it with a 9x9 area (spawner being the center) and 2 blocks above the spawner.

For people with the same problem I changed the pressure plates to tripwire hooked on the pistons. This works great!

You get the biggest understatement in history award for calling it a big build. I forgot to build a slime farm on my new world and had to chunk out an area and babysit it for a while to get the slime balls needed. Maybe it felt like it's bigger because that set me back a few hours. But I just tried it and it's amazing, but seriously I hope to never make another one even though there's another spawner next to it and it could be entertaining for the needlessneess of it

Kill some blaze to get two blaze rods. Use those rods to create a brewing stand, create some 8 minute fire resistance potions, drop into the lava, swim to the bottom, build up to your spawner from the bottom of the lava. Actually, build a platform about 25 blocks below your spawner. Then build up. That should give you enough space to build the farm.

+SomethingUllRemember also, the 8x8 here does not completely disable blaze spawning in 1.8+. You need a full 9x2x9. The farm still works, but it is not maximizing the spawner's rate potential now.

This is still working, but it can be built better. Since they updated the efficiency of this one, it really became kinda useless. Also i really recommend building a Zombie Pigman XP farm, like from HermitCraft one. It's very nice.

Same thing happen to me, but I when I enclosed the spawner in a 9x2x9 block it actually stopped then spawning, but then I had to work with my way from there, replacing blocks where they would be and so on. I hope it helped.

AndyCandyCane Thanks, on another server now (Realms hosted by a friend) and another friend MrHurtigtoget has made a newer version of this and the main difference is that the spawning area is larger. It works very well but I can't remember off hand how the "off" mechanism works but if I do remember correctly this deign is piston free. ~Hobbit

This still works in 1.14 (made today), but the spawner needs to be filled in with a 9x9 area (update since this video was made). Because of the bigger area, we had to use more pistons and add an extra layer to bring it down to a 2x2 area for the crusher to work. Otherwise you can follow the instructions pretty well the same. Some blazes do get stuck on the top level of ours, but it's still very efficient

Hey EthosLab thanks for the tutorial, but you really need to redo it, it's ancient, it's out of date, it's slow (the video) and it's wrong in a few places. Now i know this is from 2011 but a lot of information in it just isn't correct, like the paranoia about the light from the redstone torches or repeaters, those only give out a maximum light level of 7, while blazes spawn at "light level of 11 or less" (straight from the wiki), that's the reason why you had to place a regular torches on every block around it to disable it.

Thanks for the great blaze spawner farm Etho. A couple of tips for people making this awesome farm in survival and not in creative mode. 1.Do NOT use glass as ghast fireballs can destroy glass. 2.Cover all the pistons with stone as ghast fireballs can destroy pistons as well. 3.Finally i think that making all the sticky pistons push glass block instead of stone blocks doesnt cause the blazes to suffocate( I am not 100% sure of it).

I did it! I am a redstone noob, so this was quite a challenge. The hardest part was setting up all of the redstone stairways at the end because Etho built them off-camera instead of letting me follow him step by step. Even the removal of the two layers of spawner-stopping netherrack wasn't as tough. (One eight-minute flame resistance potion and a good pick let me poke holes in the side of the cave and carefully remove about 1/4 at a time.). Thank you, Etho! Went thru several stacks of cobble, and redstone, not to mention all the coal to make smooth stone. And all the slime balls to make the sticky pistons. But now it's done!

Just built this on my survival server (1.12) and it works great! mobs sometimes get stuck up top for some reason when i wonder around but if you just turn it off and run far enough away for the mobs to de-spawn you can start it up again. Thanks for the great design etho!

Building this again almost 9 years later has some serious nostalgia, but stands testament to Ethos' designs, they still serve great purpose today! (Following this build video was for serious players only back then, no material list, no build size, no clear picture... just build it, Etho says it works... and we trusted him! And they worked and still work!)

I just made it on a 1.7.10 server. Works great. Went from 0 to 30 levels in almost 10 minutes. Got 30 blazed trapped, none died. Did do I fix for the blazes triggering the gate, but that's alright. This'll probably stay the best design for all the MC versions.

I am really glad that it still even works in 1.12.2! I was building this contrapsion with the fear in my mind that it will not work anymore. Thank God It Still Does! I first made this thing back in 1.2.5 when hunger bar, experience, nether fortress, end, end dragon, villages, etc. was added to the game and to this day I am using it.
