Thanks for the wonderful video Mike! The Class 37 is one of my all-time favourite loco types; they've got a truly unmistakable sound. I'll be down that way (as per usual) next week, staying at Dunster Beach, and I'll try to do the railway this year, as I haven't done it the last couple of times I've been down... :)

The promised Bishops Lydeard/Taunton shuttle has been confirmed - the first train runs on 27th July. It will be a Saturday only service initially and will be monitored closely with respect to further development. While clearly designed to encourage people to use the WSR, it is the first scheduled weekly rail service to operate here for nearly 50 years and is a new option for us in West Somerset to link with the national rail network. Which I will use. I hope many other do too. Because basically its use it or lose it.

As soon as I saw Minehead I clicked on your video. We had a holiday there in 1956 when I was 6 and I can clearly remember staying there. We stayed in a caravan park not far from the sea. There was a railway line in between the caravan park and the sea, and I can clearly remember the steam engines going up and down the line. We lived in Coleford, Gloucestershire at the time. I bet Minehead has changed a bit since then.
@ADMIRALSCORNER5 жыл бұрын
I expect if you look at some of my older videos you will see the caravan park you stayed in. Most sites are still there although some have been sold for building houses or upgraded to park homes.

I’ll have a look. It was a long time ago but I’ve got a good memory. I just had a look on Google satellite view and I think I can see where we stayed. Of course steam was king back then. It’s good that in UK there has been a revival in steam preservation, last time we visited was1986.

After about 5 minutes you mention imagining yourself at Minehead Station about 50 years ago, just at that point I was I drifting back to childhood trips by train to Minehead to see my Aunt, Uncle and cousins. As was always the case the favourite seats in the DMU was behind the driver where you could see ahead and watch the rabbits and pheasants scurrying out of the way. Eventually the first glimpse of North Hill would bring out the excitement of nearly being there, though there would still be a few more miles and the long final straight seemed many times the actual distance. Great to find the film of Minehead and I'll come back to have another look through your collection.

@ADMIRALSCORNER5 жыл бұрын
@@valvlog4665 The national network said it wasn't profitable to operate so closed it! I was there again yesterday and it was difficult to find a seat, even on the DMU!
