Problem with many soils in the UK is that conditions change so quickly due to thousand of years of human contamination that auto sensitivity is often a must. When a really clean site has auto sensitivity +3 running at 27 or 28 I generally switch to manual sensitivity and run as high as possible and you're bang on with the depth as it does make a difference on a clean site. Thanks for the upload, man. GL&HH

Nice video. Don't be afraid to narrate as you're going along. Actually one of the best depth videos I've seen in quite a while.

Thanks for the video. I've been running my E trac on auto + 3, most of the time. Now I'm going to try manual sensitivity. It looks like it has a big impact on the depth in your testing.

awesome test I went back to a site I hunted, and went into manual sensitivity mode and found a merc at 10 inches, thanks for the vid.

I learned some stuff about this the hard way last weekend. I was hunting on manual in an area and was set at 22 which is pretty common for me in this area of the country. I moved on to another area a few miles down the road and there were some power lines nearby so I did my usual noise reduction and started to hunt. I got tons of what appeared to be trash in an area so I walked to another spot and it was the same. I blamed the power lines and did another noise cancel. No good. So I attributed it to trash. I forgot about the manual sensitivity being on when I usually don't have it on. I finally noted that the recommend auto setting was 7 and it was right for that entire area. This was unusual. I lost half an hour of hunting. I like to maintain control over the e-trac but I have had my best luck trusting auto. If I am going specifically for maximum depth I will tweak it and use manual sensitivity to push the limits but that is often more trouble than it is worth for me in the areas I usually hunt. I am glad that both options are there though. Everyone hunts differently and has different results.

Some narration on what you are doing would be helpful for people like me that are looking to step up to an E-TRAC from my AT PRO I'm watching every video I come across to kind of compare. The E-TRAC is way more advanced than I could imagine

Is it just me or are the sensitivity numbers not even visible in this video? Wasn't that the whole point? It would have been nice to be able to see them or have a verbal description of what you were doing.

E-Trac uses three frequency channels simultaneously (high, medium and low) and auto sensitivity sets them to different levels for the most stable operation possible. The number you see with auto sensitivity on is the highest level in use on one of those channels. The average sensitivity may be considerably lower. With manual sensitivity, all three channels operate on the same level. Auto is used for the most stable ID's, not the most power.

It was very interesting, I'm going to check that, thanks for the information!!!

The sensitivity modes influence in the same way all audio modes, just because the audio processing of the e-trac and the sensitivity modes are not related at all.

I know the "buried" items aren't being exposed to the elements and stuff so they aren't acting exactly like real targets but that box is a pretty good idea to at least get some kind response while being able to know what's there and how deep. Good use of some brain cells! ;-)

TTF and manual sensitivity is a great combination but you really need to learn your numbers and watch your screen more often...manual sensitivity is the best for depth and it is fully manageable, run max and lower if the machine becomes a little unstable....

Sometimes you say more when you are silent A real etrac user knows what he is trying to show.. If you are not an etrac user then this video just aint your cup of tea. Great video .

I hate to say this...but everytime you hit the rocks, your machine is not reading the target.....its falsing -_- I dont know about the container your using, however in germany at least anything above 20 makes the machine just go crazy :/

If you don't understand the functional difference between auto and manual sensitivity, you need to learn more about it! The same goes for being able to listen to multi-conductive. If you can't understand it, you need a LOT more practice. TTF, while it has it's uses, is not a substitute for learning MC. That is the same thing as removing 90% of the information it is trying to tell you simply because you don't want to learn.

Hello and thank you for you comment! But please, do not be so categorical, especially when you itself do not understand the conception of the E-Trac audio and sensitivity modes. The audio is just an audio - a post-processing of the detected signal. If you can not detect a signal in two-tone-ferous audio you would not detect the same signal in multi-tone-conductive audio. The sensitivity of all audio modes in depth is same!!!!!! Believe me it is tested.

THE TEST SHOULD BE MADE WITH GOLD, NOT IRON, BECAUSE THE PURPOSE OF EVERYONE IS TO LOOK FOR GOLD NOT IRON.

"For me the multi-tone-conductivity mode is a real torture for the ears and the brain" shows you just don't have the will to learn what the E-Trac is about, just like The Silver Fiend pointed out. Besides, while TTF has its uses, the ferrous numbers generally aren't very stable at depth compared to conductive. That's why I use CO sounds all the time, even amongst iron.

Maybe he is mute and metal detecting takes him to his own wonderful world where he can "talk" with the hidden treasures??? So much work was put into this test. It would be nice if anybody could give more analyse into this. May be Hobby Man could improve the tests then? Well done! I will build such test garden and I will try it on my own.
