Just making 78 years old, I decided to start going to the hills to look for gold and ghost towns. I figured after learning how to use it, I will go back to Oregon, where I'm from to visit family.... Hi, I found this very helpful and informative. I was struggling today with using my Equinox for the first time, so found this tutorial and it has given me more confidence to try again. I have come back to metal detecting after a 30 year break; machines have moved on a bit and not like the old machines which were basically just turn on and go! I have had numerous machines over the years and I found the best one for me was the Minelab Sovereign Elite which was great for beach work. Unfortunately, this Equinox 800 is a lot more sophisticated for me (I'm 75 years old). A big thanks from the UK, you're great!

Thank you for this easy to understand tutorial. I just got my new detector today and I was playing around my backyard and almost immediately I found an old gold-plated belt buckle and about five minutes later I found a really nice silver spoon that dates back to the 1800's! So, on my first day I found silver and gold!

I received my NOX 800 on Friday. I wish they'd sent the full Owner's Manual with it. Reading it on my phone is a PITA and the same with my computer workstation. The Quickstart Guide is very barebones. Not a lot of info, but it will get you started. Your 'basic' and 'advanced' videos have been a tremendous help! Thank you, so very much. I'm sure there are volumes, yet to be learned. But, you have certainly given us 'newbies' a leg-up.

I would like to make something perfectly clear to new users of the Equniox. You do not need to hold the power button down until you see FP on your screen.That is only for when you are changing any programs or settings back to the stock factory presets.Holding the power button down until FP is on the screen will un sync your previously sync'ed headphones causing you to have to sync your headphones every time you power on your detector.

Good video to show beginners basic operation. Instead of doing a factory reset at startup, you can just hold down the black detect/mode button on the left for 5 seconds until you see SP on the screen and reset the search mode you are using to factory defaults. The threshold tone does not help you detect small targets in any mode. Instead, it tells you if you are passing the coil over a discriminated/rejected target. The threshold tone will momentarily go silent or null over the rejected target. It is a good alternative instead of hunting with the horseshoe button depressed all of the time so that all metals including iron are accepted. The frequent iron low tones can get annoying. If I hear the threshold tone go silent in say Park 1 but I have what seem to be good numbers I can also quickly press the horseshoe button to double check for iron and decide to dig or not.

Great video! Every time you get a new machine, you have to rewire your brain too! The frequency number is the number of times a signal is transmitted into the ground per second...measured in Hertz 1000 Hertz = 1kHz I looked it up, Page 15 of the manual!

Thank you, I just got an 800 in the mail today. I liked and subscribed. The one thing that I would like to mention is the power button. A short press of the Power button turns the detector on and off. A long press (5 seconds) restores the whole detector to factory settings. Without thinking, someone might turn it on with a long press every time and erase any of their personal settings. But this video is obviously titled Getting Started, just wanted to add that piece of information.

I ordered the equinox 800 a month ago, super frustrated when I started using it so I decided to KZbin settings and such, changed my settings to the videos suggestions (huge huge mistake) and after that I could not for the life of me get it to the point where it was accurate and would hit something and go to dig and it would just disappear. Now I came across this video and found the factory reset I’m hoping that now I go out I can begin enjoying the detector now it’s settings are reset. Thank you even if it’s just the basics but thank you for the video!

You eliminated the fear I had, Im exaggerating a bit to express my feelings, purchasing this piece of equipment, not having any experience metal detecting ever in my life. I just got mine a week ago. It was an upgrade from my Garrett at pro. First hunt with the equinox 800 yielded 10 coins and a silver ring. Awesome machine so far!

You do got some good videos. Thanks for making them. I just bought my equinox yesterday and was at the GPAA here in Alabama. I pulled it out and after a few minutes I just put it back in the box until I could watch me a video. I’ve watched two of your videos and could take it out now and hunt. Not for gold yet but hint still the same. Yesterday it just confused me trying to hold hunt with it but I owned a xterra 705 a couple of years ago and just knew I need to learn at least a little bit about it before attempting more advanced hunting like gold right out of the box. You’ve helped me a lot. Thank you brother.

Fantastic video, step by step instructions on each setting. I have decided on the the 800 over the 600 and from watching your video I think it will be easy to set up. I did talk to a factory rep recently and he advised it could be powered on and go hunt, but I do understand an adjustment for ground balance would be good even if you want to hunt this way. But with your settings I think the learning curve will be much easier. I look forward to getting the 800 and and learning while I hunt. Thanks for your great video !

Perhaps it's already been mentioned, but the gear wheel you mention several times is actually a universal icon symbol for the 'settings' menu. I have it on my iPad, Android phone, and PC.
