I thought I would throw my two cents in no pun intended! I'm an electronic technician by career for 30 years and have been detecting for almost the same amount of years! The frequencies in a multi frequency detector are different because they optimize the sensitivity of the detector for the metal that you're looking for so silver and copper are more responsive to the lower frequencies like 4 kilohertz and 5 kilohertz etc the higher frequencies like 20 and 40 kilohertz are much more responsive to gold generally, in the past detectors were only single frequency units and were optimized for the best of both worlds but with disadvantage the detector may be very good at silver and copper but not so good at Gold or a detector maybe a higher frequency and be better for gold but not so much silver and copper your run of the mill detectors normally are optimized so that they're average at both ends of the spectrum but not optimum! Multi-frequency detectors like the equinox when running in multi frequency utilize all the frequencies simultaneously so that as you pass over objects in the ground the detector is able to process that information and give you the most accurate information over a wide range of targets! Selecting the individual frequencies has very little to do with interference or EMI and more to do with optimizing the detector for what you're looking for so if I'm going to hunt gold nuggets I'll be selecting 40 kilohertz and running in only that frequency but if I'm going to hunt silver and copper I'm going to want to run at five kilohertz. Hopefully this helps everyone understand the difference. The majority of detectors in the world for decades now have been single frequency units and they are very problematic in highly mineralized soil and salt which multi frequency machines handle extremely well. It's not to say that a single frequency unit cannot operate in highly mineralized soil or on salt the work around for decades was to decrease sensitivity to reduce falsing but unfortunately reducing sensitivity also decreases depth so it's a give and take! Only in the last 30 years or so has multi-frequency really taken hold and Minelab is definitely the pioneer in that arena! Multi-frequency allows the detector to operate in some very harsh soil and wetted salt conditions while at the same time giving you the most advantage over a wide range of targets in the ground. The fact that you can select a specific frequency to operate on based on what you're looking for is an outstanding option! Anyways I hope this helps a little bit! Happy hunting and best regards! Btw enjoy the videos very informative🙂

When ever possible Detectorist should strive to dig a 3 sided horseshoe shaped hinged plug so that the first lawn mower that runs over that spot wont suck the plug out of the ground. It also helps the grass to grow back, and before closing the plug and pressing it into back into the lawn pour any loose dirt back into the hole.

Just my my 800 a couple days ago. The dealer was super helpful and showed me the basic setup. He also went over the use of the detector. Yesterday was my first try with it in the field. Dug junk, didn't find not one coin. After watching this video I feel much more prepared. For example the dealer never mentioned the scale when using the pin pointer mode. Also said to use park in #2 whereas you said #1. Thanks so much for giving me my confidence back!

Great video! As a new Nox 600 owner I didn't realize that the tone is more important than the VDI number. I'm coming from a White's M6 which I tend to rely on the VDI number, probability indicator, and a clear tone. This is a great video!

bought a 600 model and could NOT find ANYWHERE a slow and thorough tutorial as this video. For instance, I could not understand why the face of the screen said EQUINOX and did not have the details of the screen protector. I didn't know that this particular protector would cover the equinox. Just simple things like that. I cannot tell you how much this and a couple other of your videos made me not feel some dumb trying to detect metal and figure out what all the options were about. I subscribed even though I may not need any further help, but your video is the BEST out there. Thank you, Art

I have recently purchased the Equinox 800. I also have a Excal 1000 and a Fisher Aquanut 1280X. I have had both detectors for many years and both have well paid for themselves with the finds of the past. I have watched so many videos about the Equinox 800 and I think your videos are the best on KZbin. My biggest problems is that I have watched too many and the advanced settings are a bit confusing from one video to another. I am a bit intimidated with my new Nox 800 detector. I have not assembled it yet...perhaps I should and just use the factory settings to start. It is so difficult for me to start a new learning curve since I am still attempting to master the older detectors I have. I guess a person really never masters any detector....so many variables...every hunt is a new experience. I just want to encourage everyone to just go out there, get fresh air and a bit of exercise and perhaps stumble across a fortune that everyone is looking for. Thanks for your time and effort with your very informative videos. I wish all the best and happy hunting!!!

Good video, except digging a complete plug out, will kill the grass and get you kicked out for future digs. I only make 3 cuts and flip the plug, keeping live roots attached to regrow. Also use a mat to put any dirt on.
@lunatunes23 жыл бұрын
Sorry Guys but leaving a hinge on one side of the grass does not make the rest of the grass on the plug grow back better. If it doesn't rain the day or night after your dig or if the ground isn't super moist/wet when you dig the plug then that plug grass is going to go brown......but it will grow green again.

Larry, I noticed that you usually pinpoint in one direction, I pinpoint in two opposite directions. Like you use to see if your tone is the same in an opposite direction. Pinpointing in two opposite directions really helps me get the target centered in the hole. Hope this can help others as well. Great clip, keep them coming!

Hey there, thank you for this video. It answered a lot of questions for sure. I do have a couple questions. 1. I noticed you have it set on, I’m assuming,5 tone? 2. When you were going over the targets you passed by some lower tones. I’m wondering why you didn’t stop and see if they would give you a continual solid sound? I’m sure you instinctively know it won’t produce but could you tell me your thoughts about that. 3. Do you reset your factory setting before you go out each time? Thank you so much
@SodBustersMetalDetecting2 жыл бұрын
Hi Alex. I will dig lower tones if they are repeatable but I was demonstrating tones people should listen for in the beginning as they learn. There is no need to factory reset, just turn it on noise cancel and hunt

Hello Larry. Great content, thank you. I have been using my Vanquish 540. Fantastic and easy on the learning curve. Equinox 800 just arrived and your information makes it far less intimidating. I will hunt your library for the in-depth screen explanations.

"Thaaat's a quatah." I couldn't help it. I said that when you pulled up that quarter. :) My Equinox 800 isn't even here yet and I've learned that a 26-27 could be a silver dime and a 29-31 a quarter. I called pull tab on the first target before you said it. I can't wait to get it outside and begin learning it. I've hunted with a borrowed AT Pro a bit for fun and I've used Gold Bugs in my work but this will be my first I've owned. I want to get it dirty. I also live a 2 minute walk from the beach. I'm excited. lol I have to laugh. There is good "book learning" on YT and I thank you for your part in it. It is certainly need and very much appreciated.

I just recieved my Equinox 800 a couple days ago from Amazon and just tonight did my first short trial hunt on a beach on the Treasure Coast of Florida where I live after watching a couple of your videos. I wasn't out for long as I started late and the night crept up on me. Was out for a little less than an hour and dug 2 hits. A piece of aluminum and a bottle cap! lol. Not bad for my first time ever hunt I was just happy I got to dig and got hits. My question is what exactly do the numbers on the VDI mean? I know you said to pay more attention to the tones but the numbers have to mean something right?
Great video I am a beginner and this just encourages me to get going God bless

Just bought my first detector ever (Equinox 800) and like many I’m starting 20-30 years later than I wanted to. Better late than never. Having split residence in Oregon and Idaho, I see many detecting “opportunities”. Do you ever do Idaho/SodBuster “group hunts”? I appreciate your videos and chill demeanor.

Thank you, I don't do group hunts but you might check out North West Treasure Hunters club in Spokane WA I will be joining them

WOW another great video on a basic set up. I just picked up my 800 a few days ago and have viewed many videos and read through the Andy Sabisch equinox handbook. It will take some time to learn the machine, but this "park" video will really help me out with the very basic settings to get me out and learning the different tones. Thank you for taking the time to produce these vey helpful videos, as without folks like you all the newbies would be sitting around and wondering ... what do I do next LOL by the way what state do you reside in ?

Hey, great tutorials. Thanks. I bought one of these when a promotion was on with the 11 inch and the six inch coils. What would the six inch coil be better for? Just smaller crevices where it will fit better? I'm new to this, but I found an island in my area that is full of quartz and chunks of basalt. Excited to see what I can find.
@SodBustersMetalDetecting4 ай бұрын
Smaller coils are better in trashy areas where you need better separation.
