I did some VDI tests with my 900 today. I took a plastic flower pot and filled it with dirt/sand and sat it over my targets to get the VDI numbers. I figured it was better than air test and a lot easied than burying my wife's gold necklace since I still like living! I would make a video but maybe you can make one for everybody since you have so many followers. Just a suggestion. THanks

@@SodBustersMetalDetecting I had both the 600 and 800 (at different times) but didn't particularly care for the compressed Vdi numbers. I like the newer configuration on the 900. I like trying different detectors so will give this one a spin. Maybe a good back up for my Deus 2! I mainly hunt for Civil War relics and will put the 900 to the test! Good luck hunting.

I line up the bottom edge perfectly and then work it upward and from the center outward

Keep it basic, put it in whichever mode you want and set sensitivity as high asyou can yet keeping the detector stable (not chattering) noise cancel and hunt. Feel free to find Sod Busters Metal Detecting Facebook group also if you want

Does it appear that Minelab corrected some of the service issues that plagued the 800 on the 900 version? I'm speaking about ear on the coils breaking and questionable waterproofing? Thank you for the videos. Best Wishes.

Nice vid. Im a Deus 2 hunter. Bought the 700 for water (dont want to dunk 1400 dollars) Really like it in water. But I only have the small coil on deus so been taking the nox out for large areas. But I'm getting iron overload tones not only high but its sounding off as mid tones sometimes. Really slows me down. The deus only will overload a high tone and by 2nd or 3rd swing it will process that its iron and give the true grunt. But my 700 will still be giving mid tones on the 6th swing or so. Any tips on a way to minimize it? 700 is my buddys min machine and he does great. I assume there's some adjustments I can make

You can increase your iron bias but don't overdo it as you can cancel good targets.just bump it up 1 Notch at a time to see how it does. You can also run test at home with ferrous and nonferrous targets.

The 900 has more sensitivity, better separation, VDI to 99 for more information. Collapsible carbin fiber shaft, adjustable arm cuff. The 11" coil has been improved for strength, waterproof to 16ft deep, on and on

I have one problem with this machine .That is the battery. In ten years the battery maybe obsolete. It's not like you can replace it with a store bought battery.

I hear you. It's a concern for me too; however, from my research, and maybe I'm missing something, but I haven't really seen any detectors at the levels of these detectors where an adapter is available to convert to using regular batteries. I wish they had that option, but it appears to be a pretty industry wide problem. Perhaps no one estimates their detectors will last that long anyway. That of course will depend on how much it's used. Nevertheless, it doesn't look like it's an option generally.

@@ActinOut I have actually had the Minelab over 10 years. I can still get the battery for that one but if I couldn't I also have just the case where I could use store brought batteries and fill up the case and am ready to go. But the equinox you can not do that. That was my point. Maybe I will expire before the battery is no longer made.

@Stoney47 makes sense. I'd imagine that 10 years ago they probably made an adapter to use store bought batteries with it. My vanticore 440 I bought a few months ago over the 540 specifically because didn't want to be stuck with rechargeable batteries. But the vanticore is not on this level. I'd much prefer one in the 900 or manticore level just like what you've got that takes either. It just doesn't look to me like any manufacturer at this level makes them with an adapter so you can still use store batteries in anymore. I agree with you, that this is disappointing. Like you, I'd much rather buy one that also takes regular batteries as well. Do you know a brand that still does that for a detector at this level? I'd be interested.
