When are we going to get some good noise canceling headphones for are Minelab detectors? I have a Manticore a Nox 900 and Xterra and have put them in the tool shed because I can’t stand the stock headphones.

When doing a manual ground balance do you need to find a clean bit of ground to ground balance on or does it not matter where you do it

Great question. The answer is not really. If you have a large piece of ground, and one patch is 'clean' upon which you ground balance, but then you go and detect on the 'unclean' patch then you're not really helping yourself. Ground balance for the environment you are in. If the ground is all 'unclean' then that's the environment that your detector needs to be balanced for.

Seek a clean piece of land with no targets below. I use All metal mode to do this. Once found do the Ground balance.

What Keith said. You don’t want to balance out real signals. Just the soil.

So conclusions ground balancing is ... "something," " not quite like this," " customer no need to know. " ..."debatable subject ..."depends." "Forget about ground balance."

Let’s make an ‘expert’ series of videos hosted by a guy who knows nothing about detecting. 🤦♂️

We asked Scott to present this series exactly for that reason. We have a good balance of knowledge and experience from the team on these videos, from beginners, to experienced users and engineers, and that's what we wanted. Many of our audience are complete beginners and we believe Scott is asking the questions that many want to know. The experienced users amongst the audience will most likely remember what it was like not to know what a ground balance does etc, and we think they'll still learn a lot from the experts in the series.

@@crawfordsmetaldetectors maybe you could look at doing a series for individual machines perhaps? I’ve recently bought a Manticore, it’s my second Minelab machine, but I have to say, the advice given by many on KZbin, is conflicting at best. Something that addresses this misinformation would be useful to a lot of detectorists looking to take things to the next level. 🤷♂️

@@adamclaxton8622 Hey Adam, we're currently working on some stuff for the Manticore so please ensure you're subscribed. And you are right, there is a lot of conflicting information out there. The main thing we would say about the Manticore, or any detector for that matter, is that there is no, 'one size fits all' setting. Many on KZbin state they have the 'best settings' and it's a load of old tosh. The machine needs setting for each different environment. Keep poised, it might be a month or so, but we have something coming.
