Thanks for posting this video! I've spent the last week looking at metal detectors, trying to figure out what to buy for a first detector without wasting money. I've been stuck between the Ace 400, AT Pro, and Vanquish 540. Halfway through your video, I paused it, and ordered the Vanquish 540 and Pro Find 20 Pin Pointer package... Then continued to watch the rest of the video. I'm convinced that it was $516 well spent. Can't wait to start digging up history! Thanks again!

Nice to hear that the first metal detector I've ever bought is getting great reviews. I just need to find some permissions to be able to use it on (sadly, here in the UK, we have to ask permission to do anything, I'm surprised we don't have to ask permission to go for a dump... But there is still time...)

When you turn the detector on hold the coil in the air off the ground about 2 or 3 feet. That noise it makes when it comes on is it finding the most quiet frequency and it needs to be off the ground so it doesn't read anything in the ground while doing it.

Sounds like the Mine labs detector you bought was a great choice! I just bought a used Mine labs Excalibur 2. I bought it for $500.00. I brought it to the shop to have a new battery which was $160.00 and new coil and wires. Costing me a total of $539.00. My total being $1039.00. Considering a new Excalibur is about $1500.00. I think I’m getting a good deal. The Excalibur is water proof to 200 feet. My plan is to get on Fort Lauderdale beach and detect in up to ten feet water. Lots of good targets here on the beach. The Excalibur is rated as the best beach detector out there.Beach’s get that mineralization causing false reading. Not with the Excalibur! Good luck with your machine. By the way what state are you in?

Adjustable volume is good. Some people say use headphones to hear the small deep signals but that's only if your hardcore and want to dig a BB 7 inches down. I have the Minelab Etrac and never use headphones. A lot of the headphones are tight and low quality with fake leather that will get sticky and sweaty especially the ones that come as a bundle with the detector.

There is 100x the trash on beaches, than anywhere else. Plus, the salt and minerals combine to create static signals that are hard to discriminate out. The electrolysis can also mess up the frequencies. While it looks productive on many MD channels, those guys have machines with programs and frequencies for the beach. My Nokta has a specific beach mode, and it's still a real pain to filter the signals. I'm near the beach, but I do most of my detecting on our local university campus lawns and sports fields. LOTS of pocket change every time!
