The Rookies are on the hunt for opalised shells, knowing that in the past a single piece has been valued up to $200,000. After hours digging in the ground however, their haul turns out to be worth just a fraction of the potential value.

Start of the episode: Bit of colour, bit of trace, bit of colour, bit of trace, bit of colour, bit of trace, bit of colour, bit of trace. End of the episode: looks like a nice cutter, could be a few dollars, looks like a nice cutter, could be a few dollars, looks like a nice cutter, could be a few dollars. Absolutely insane.

Seriously, the opal bits were so puny, what did they expect the value to be? Rookies indeed.

Having watched videos of people cutting opal, you realize that just because something has a bit of colour, it doesn't mean a gem can be cut from it. The pieces need to have a bit of size, and more importantly, it has to be clean without sand running through the middle.
