This has been really helpful. Thank you. I'm very short waisted and love woven tops. I now understand what's happening and realise I have to amend the pattern first! I have recently tried fish eye darts on the back piece but not been totally successful.😐 Also if a top has armhole princess seams should I use those to make my swayback adjustments? Thanks for any advice!

I'm a new Subscriber, happy to be here!! Wow, this was so interesting! I loved how you actually showed what a Sway Back Adjustment is and why it is needed. I've often heard of a Sway back adjustment but didn't know why or how to fix it. My question is this, how do I know that I need a sway-back adjustment? Would it be found out with a muslin or is there a way of knowing you need one before making a muslin? Of course, I would prefer the latter.

Cam you actually do a sway back adjustment if the centre back is on the fold?

How does it work when cutting out New look 6449. The pattern piece should be placed on the fold but once you've taken out the wedge it is no longer straight. Can you only do this on a garment with a centre back seam?

I think you have made a good point there. I will put my thinking cap on because that wouldn't work on the fold. It would only work on centre back seams as you have mentioned.

By having a scout around it appears some people make vertical contour darts at the back waist and let out the hips to account for the lower part taken away in the dart. This makes total sense but I have never done it before so I am definitely going to have a go. Everyday is a school day!
