As a Chinese this soundtrack brings me to tears. Ming China theme comes from Kun-Qu(昆曲), one of the oldest form of Chinese operas originated in Ming China. Unlike most civilization's theme from religious or historical perspective , the music tells a Chinese version of Romeo-Juliet romantic story named 'Peony Pavilion' (牡丹亭), which is exactly composed by a late Ming China officer Tang Xianzu (汤显祖). This fragment You-Yuan Jing-Meng (游园 惊梦, wandering in garden and dreaming ) actually has lyrics, saying the heroine Du Liniang (杜丽娘), a noble girl, wandering in garden and enjoying the scenery , but actually dreaming of her future lover secretly. Love is common language of human kind, thank you Geoff and all Chinese artists for the marvelous music!
As much as I loved civ6's orchestral renditions of chinese music, it is nice to hear more authentic Chinese instruments used in civ 7 so far in both eras china can be picked.

Would surprise me if China is only able to be picked in two out of three eras tbh

If Civ can put Confucius as a leader, I really hope they put can Zheng He as the Ming leader. He's the embodiment of "exploration", perfect for the Exploration Age

They did mention him in the developer showcase, no confirmation he's playable but I think they mention Ming having bonuses related to the treasure ship mechanics because of him. i agree he would be a perfect leader pick, though

I realized that the erhu was the main instrument for this song, it has a very distinct sound over other string instruments. Definetly sounds more authentic compared to china in civ6 esp in the industrial in civ6 going orchestra after that point and losing all the Chinese instruments.

It's such a beautiful sounding instrument, one of my favorites.
@dirtpillow5073Ай бұрын
@@danmiy12 If I must reply, I believe they cut Erhu out because they wanted a more indigenously Chinese instrument in their Civ 6 theme. IIRC, Erhu was adapted from the northern nomadic tribes (I wanna say the Mongols, but I'm not sure).

I think one of the things i was most excited for in civ 7 is that Geoff Knorr is making the soundtrack. Civ 6 soundtrack in my opinion is a masterpiece that other civ games couldnt quite reach but got close. Regardless, his work really sets the vibe and sounds amazing. My civ music playlist i use to fall asleep is gonna be packed with another 40 tracks at least!
@alexalckminzamboniАй бұрын
And their concepts are so different! Civ6 is all about music progression from a same basic melody, adding more layers but westernizing a little in the end. Civ7 is all about authentic music from each civ, showing the progress by changing the civ throughout the game. Geoff Knorr can do both so well!
