Almighty Gnome Overlord Jingles, I hope I’m not speaking out of turn as a lowly salt miner but, TAKE THE FUCKING WEEK OFF!!! We’ll be fine, all we care about is that you kick this cancers ass. There’s always time for videos later, take the time you need to recover and heal because you don’t get a second chance at that. Love and Prayers from us in the mines. Yours humbly, Salt Miner 281,943

Jingles, a word of advice if I may: See a podiatrist. I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes a few months back. Fortunately, my eyesight hasn't been harmed, but my GP has set up a treatment plan including a podiatrist check-up. Diabetes can screw up your feet since it harms blood circulation to the extremities.

In the UK diabetics get full checks twice a year, bloods, weight, and extremities checks along with a retinal scan once a year. Just wait Jingles they'll have you on the pill that makes you pee in the middle of the night along with the old fart peeing. Then they want you on the hippy pill/injection where it's basically an appetite suppressant. The one Hollywood is on its fad with. I've been diabetic for 20 years and it doesn't stop me whatsoever. I've had type 1s in the family and friends who've lived their whole life with it. Just follow the advice and you're fine. And just think...... Free blue pills 😜

The NHS will book that in, usually every 6 months, along with bloods and the eye test, they're pretty good tbf. just wash feet regularly and check for nicks and cuts, that's where the gangrene sets in and gets troublesome.

Few things for you Jingles. Type 2 runs in my family so I've been a lot more cautious for over a decade. I've gotten so used to sweeteners that I don't use sugar in tea any more. Once your meds have settled down though get your eyes checked *regularly*. My mother skipped doing so and lost much of the sight in one eye owing to glaucoma which, while it can't be cured, can be caught early and stopped from progressing. Oh and you know what else counts as a decent breakfast without lots of sugar? Bacon and eggs. Air fryer for bacon, microwave for scrambled egg and a slice of toast. Glorious and easy to do even when stumbling around in the pre-caffeine fog :D

For keyhole surgery in Australia, once awake in recovery, you are then escorted to a armchair and given something to eat and drink. You must have someone to collect you that can drive. That person may be a friend, family member, or taxi driver. You then leave. It's in and then get out with the advice of, "don't drive or operate any machinery while you are still affected by the anesthetic"! That's our post-op care because the public health system is shit. If you want real care in Australia, you must pay.

I'm told one of the keys to managing prediabetes and type 2 is avoiding _easy_ sugars, meaning sugars that your body absorbs quickly, or even carbs that get broken down easily. We can measure how fast a carb can be absorbed by a number called the glycemic index, where 0 is pure water and 100 is pure glucose. The lower the glycemic index, the more slowly carbs are absorbed from that food. The industry (esp. American food industry) has come up with all kinds of trickery to stuff sugar into their processed foods, and "no added sugar" in fruit juice is a big one. There is a bit of a "miracle ingredient" they use over here called "white grape juice (concentrate)". This stuff has low acidity, no color at all, and a lot of dissolved sugars like fructose and glucose. So they can add that and/or apple juice to something like cranberry juice and hey presto, consumer gets the USDA suggested dose of simple sugars that was set by the sugar lobby. Another one that was used for a while in "health food" products was "evaporated cane juice". Well, what do you call sugar cane juice without the water? Yeah, sugar.

Hey, Bohemian Eagle... Just a little Call-Back. I had 2 stomach surgeries. From a normal to a sleeve-stomach and last july, because of complications with 2 stomach ulcers, to a stomach-bypass. It changed my life. And like you said, that you don't need sugar everywhere. I got used to eating more "healthy", whatever you may call that. I lost the "lust" for stuff like Cola or sugar in food I eat. Not that I don''t drink it at all. But I don't chug down that 2 Liter bottle forcefully now. I now go more for "tasty" food. A simple piece of toast with cucumber, paprika, tomatoes, a bit of salt, spices... I mean from time to time I also enjoy a piece of chocolate, pizza or stuff like that, but not in the amount I'm used to eat for years. I also love to drink coffee and I also smoke and left out meals every day. And now I'm "forced" to eat smaller meals every day every few days but not at the amount I was used to. I lost 100kg. I feel more healthy, my blood values went up to nearby perfect values. I can only say: People, just get used to not chug down the whole double-cheese-xtra-size pizza. 2 slices will still give you satisfaction, you can eat the rest later. You won't die from refraining to finish that "last bite". Or maybe, which is better, aim to go for more "tastier" stuff, instead of going for the amount and the bigger size. I can still go to McDicknalds, Pizzashit, whatever. But I don't order the Tripple-BBQ-Whopper Maxi-Menu with extras on the side. I buy a burger. Maybe only eat half of it, leave half of it for later, and I'm still no longer hungry. YOU WON'T DIE from not finish it. Just try something new, pick some food and combine it the way you may have never tried it before and you will be fine.

I was knocking back even more soda than you before my Dr told me to "stop it!" As a result I looked around for diet drinks and this was when the "no sugar" recipes hit the soda industry. Besides not knocking back any where the amount of soft drinks I used to consume I've found the "no sugar" (not regular diet) to actually be quite alright. Wish I'd started drinking them sooner. I hope this catches your attention. Regular Metformin gave me explosive diarrhea. Switching to the Metformin Extended Release (ER) helps alot. I don't know how it works in the UK, but out of pocket cost varies wildly in the US by dosage, depending on your insurance. 1000mg tablets are 10 times as much as 500 for me. Also, the "Zero Sugar" diet drinks have much less aftertaste and are easier to transition through when cutting out the cokes.

Hi Paul, as a fellow type II diabetic, I take the XR (extended release) version of metformin. It made a world of difference to my tolerance. Also it takes a bit to build the tolerance. Best wishes, Jingles! I hope you get through this quick and without complications! Secondly, a big thank you. I'm a couple of years younger than you (2 or 3 years). Here we get sent a bowel cancer test kit (blood-in-poop sample) when we reach a certain age and I received mine a few weeks ago. I sent it back for testing last week and the result came back today... Negative! EDIT: My eyesight have gone sharply down for the last couple of months. Can't make out small text/numbers (on my laptop and my phone) - and this started a few months ago. I love fast food and have a sweet tooth. The last couple of years I've been eating like a king and I suspect it's diabetes. So I've begun on a diet. Luckily I love veggies and I've alway used sugar substitute in my coffee and I drink sugar-free soda (Pepsi Max, etc). Next up is dusting off my training gear and start training again, walk more, etc.

Howdy jingles, glad to hear you're doing good/better given the circumstances. I have to say, the whole "cutting down on sugar" is indeed very effective for a better and healthier lifestyle. My sister has been on a Keto diet for about 10 weeks and she followed it quite well, apart from a few days. But even following that diet so-so, she lost over 12 kg's in that timeframe. And some keto dishes are actually quite delicious. We've had some vegetable curries with cauliflower rice, filled zucchinis, stews, etc. that were all very tasty. I have no doubt that you've heard the term given your diabetes diagnosis. Maybe there could be a few home with the gnome videos again with some healthy recipies? If you want to do them, of course.

My grandad has diabetes and it's made me think about my diet and I cut sugar out and stopped eating ready meals years ago, I think alcohol has to be cut out too but there is no way I'm stopping drinking beer although I don't drink every week, good luck with the surgery and hopefully you will be back with the normal schedule of videos soon

Had my diabetic eye screening last week, take sunglasses even if overcast, the glare afterwards is blinding.

It's weird to say, but I'm glad you got a confirmed prognosis for a somewhat safe cancer. Take all the time you need, Jingles.

I get these scam messages every couple of weeks here in Switzerland. They send out lots of them because they know that just by volume they are going to send it to someone who's expecting a package from that company. Best of luck with your surgery!

One of my patients told me he had spinal fusion surgery, C2-T1, and he said that the procedure here in the US cost him $364,000, and he's needed far more than one surgery.

Almighty Gnome Overlord Jingles, as a long term Type 2 diabetes person, can i suggest that you get yourself some FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor, just enough for a few weeks. It will give you a wonderfully knowledge into your blood sugars, and what food effect you, and how they effect you. once you see it, you can choose a diet that suits your lifestyle the best

Been there. Diabetes, Appendix, stage 1 colon cancer, double kidney surgery for large stones. The colon surgery was the best! The butcher nicked something he shouldn't have and I ended up with a hematoma the size of an American football. 5 units of blood, a slight morphine addiction and 4 days later I was good as new. Took me a while to figure out why I was waking up in a large pool of sweat for days. Thanks morphine. Eek! My Diabetes is fine now. Get off the pills as soon as you can, they're not good for you either, just better than diabeties. My father died from diabetes complications having had it for many years. It basically attacks almost every organ in your body. Keep up the good diet and add some exercise and you'll be just fine. Cheers!
