J'ai habité au Canada pendant 20 ans et je n'oublierai jamais Rita MacNeil. Maintenant en France, et à plus de 80 ans, je chante encore ses merveilleuses chansons. Elle m'accompagnera jusqu'à la fin.

I had the pleasure of living for 11 years in Cole Harbour Nova Scotia. Some of the family"s happiest memories were created camping at MacLeods in the summer. Such a sense of peace crossing the causeway.

Beautiful and heartrending. Rita is singing about one of the most beautiful places in the world, Why clutter this beauty with images gas station and highway signs. Show the world the green fields and the ocean shores that she is singing about.

I'm from the UK but have visited Nova Scotia including Alexander Keith's Brewery. That was a fantastic holiday for me. When i heard about the passing of Rita, i was saddened. Her music and lyrics really do paint a wonderful picture of Nova Scotia. R.I.P. Rita, a beautiful voice and wonderful songs - they will live on in your memory.

Don't know how I arrived here, I've been drinking beer all night, ALONE, as my lady left me, but never mind that! This song is sooooo beautiful! Really, what a voice, I feel good right now. Thank you Nova Scotia, and thank you Canada for William Shatner and beer and Pam Anderson! For that, I give you my right hand. Mike - Florida

A beautiful person and a remarkable voice has been lost to this world but I am sure she is leading the Heavenly Angels in chorus as we speak. You will be long remembered for the good you gave to this world, especially Cape Breton and Nova Scotia. Your voice will always be in the memories of us all still here.

Ok folks, there are two different songs being spoken about here. Both sung by Rita, but only one written by her. The title song of this video was written by Rita, but the other song, Farewell to Nova Scotia, was only recently recorded by Rita, but she did not write it. Both are about the whole province, but the pictures featured in this video are of Cape Breton, Ritas birthplace. The song in this video is the original version as Rita wrote & sung it.

The sun was setting in the west The birds were singing on every tree All nature seemed inclined for rest But still there was no rest for me Farewell to Nova Scotia, the sea bound coast Let your mountains dark and dreary be For when I'm far away on the briny ocean tossed Will you ever heave a sigh or a wish for me I grieve to leave my native land I grieve to leave my comrades all And my aging parents whom I've always hold so dear And the bonny, bonny lass that I do adore Farewell to Nova Scotia, the sea bound coast Let your mountains dark and dreary be For when I'm far away on the briny ocean tossed Will you ever heave a sigh or a wish for me The drums they do beat and the wars do alarm The captain calls, we must obey So farewell, farewell to Nova Scotia's charms For it's early in the morning I am far, far away Farewell to Nova Scotia, the sea bound coast Let your mountains dark and dreary be For when I'm far away on the briny ocean tossed Will you ever heave a sigh or a wish for me I have three brothers and they are at rest Their arms are folded on their breast But a poor simple sailor just like me Must be tossed and driven on the dark blue sea Farewell to Nova Scotia, the sea bound coast Let your mountains dark and dreary be For when I'm far away on the briny ocean tossed Will you ever heave a sigh or a wish for me Farewell to Nova Scotia, the sea bound coast Let your mountains dark and dreary be For when I'm far away on the briny ocean tossed Will you ever heave a sigh or a wish for me

I don't care what anyone says, the best version of Farewell to Nova Scotia hands-down was by Mr. Gordon Lightfoot at the young age of 32, as part of his BBC concert special "Gordon Lightfoot in Concert" in spring 1971. And he's from Ontario.
