MINI 2009 Radio wont power on repair its not the buttons its a smd fuse

My wife's Mini had the same issue. Saw many threads complaining about the same thing with the only recourse being a $1,000 radio replacement. Found an SMD fuse from an old iphone. Worked like a charm. I would love to find the sadistic bastard who engineered it in the first place. Many thanks!

The video worked on my 2009 as well, no radio but CD player would eject and load CD’s. I ended up just jumping the fuse. Works perfect now. Thanks for the video!

do you mean you just put a piece of wire connecting each end of the fuse to jump it? and you installed it that way with no issues? I have this same issue and i think ill order another fuse but im worried about the soldering portion. its just such a small thing

Thanks. My 2009 mini cooper s r56 radio has the same issue. Watch your video and decided to take it out and check the marked "F" smd. Just solder a wire bridging it. Installed and worked like a charm. Will find out if that will cause any damage in the future. Thanks again.

Yess it worked! I just bridged the lil fuse put it all back together and boom it came back to life Thanks a bunch man and also this is way more fun and gratifying then just buying a second hand unit and swapping it out 💙

Not now sorry that was a while ago I've heard of people using mobile phone fuses if you have any spare circuit boards lying about they should have a fuse or you could purchase them on ebay my friend

I took it to a shop to get it replaced and the technician said it was blown, but the writing was burnt off so he could not tell ohms...etc.... Do you have a link for a similar one that I can purchase to provide to my tech?

Hello mate its a smd fuse so no ohms because it's a fuse buddy so look on ebay for a 1.2a SMD fuse

Mine shorted out then came back then shorted again a few times and now is done after hearing a small sizzle and smell very small. Wondering where the wire that fried is at or if it's in the computer chip. Definitely looks like it could be an insane project

I would say if you heard a short it would be obvious on the board you would see something burned

@@kieferste I did have mice but nothing else is damaged I have not looked for any bad wire but if it was a short on the board wouldnt that just stay off and not come back on and off a few times like a loose wire or something like it did. Could a board short do that . I sure hope I can find a simple chewed wire

Mine does not eject disks and I have not taken it apart yet to see if power at the back but so far power is at the fuse

Have you checked the fuse at the fuse box down in the drivers footwell if you have you will need to pull it apart and have a look see what's burnt or check that fuse in the video

Sorry for the late reply yeah totally a loose wire would do that you need to take it apart to get to the rear for the plug to check powers and grounds that will tell you if it's a wiring issue or not

Yes it would eject but if yours is stuck you can release the disc when it's apart
