Looks like another solid offering in their product line! Thank you for this thorough review! It might be worth comparing the dynamic range of 4K 60 vs 4K 100fps. On the Air 3, dynamic range on the 100fps footage is substantially worse. Shadows are much noisier, presumably due to fewer pixels actually being used to create the image (due to line skipping or something similar), which means less light being captured.

I'm thinking about going with the Mini 4. I'll be jumping from the Mini 2 so it'll be a great improvement. Thanks for the thorough review. I was intrigued by the part of the video that referred to stopping the props in flight if the attitude gets inverted etc. Luckily I didn't have that when my Mini 2 went completely upside down after hitting some tree branches. Well done and evenhanded review. Personally, I would swap one or both of my M3P for MP4. Omnidirectional sensing and DLOG along with various other less important but utilitarian changes make it so. I was surprised that DJI designed out cross comparability of camera accessories between 3P and 4P. Not entirely surprised the controllers are not cross compatible. I think the RC with M3P was borderline for processor power it should have had.

I like it. The 1/1.3" size listing is deceiving IMHO being as though that's in reality less than 1". Very sneaky.

AEB in 48MP camera mode was added also to the M4P from what I saw on their specs. I think it is only 3 shots by .7 it said like on the A3 but good to have that option since it wasn't on the M3P. Love they added waypoints also... I wish they would add them to the M3P for us.

i am going from a Spark to a Mini4 pro, it's on the way here. I have watched some range tests where they said that sport mode uses more of the battery. I found the opposite at least on my Spark. I found if i went the same distance, on sport mode i used less battery. then when there. i go into normal mode and loiter and take pictures or movies then go into sport mode and fly back.

Did you see that the weight of the mini 3 pro light weight batteries is different from the mini 4 pro light weight battery? Could you weigh the two drones without battery to see if they are the same? I saw in another video that the Mini 4 Pro + Mini 3 Pro Lightweight battery came to 252 grams... I am taking that with a grain of salt, but would like to compare the weights of the drone without any battery. I was hoping for an ND64

Hey Greg, regarding "AirSense" - My Mini-3 Pro with the RC controller will absolutely pop up a message on the controller when another aircraft is detected nearby, in real-time, even if not connected to the internet, so it's picking up something directly regarding this. So are you saying this really isn't AirSense, but a lesser feature? It does not give the location of the aircraft, or altitude, etc. just that an aircraft is detected in the area. Living in an area with a nearby airport and lots of tourist-related air traffic, I see it quite often when flying!

Most likely the reduced flight time is mainly due to it transmitting 33dbm, plus the infrared sensors.

@@PilotInstitute Have you tested this as in, out of the box, unregistered, does it broadcast RID as evidenced by one of the drone tracking apps? There seems to be multiple opinions on this, but nobody seems to be able to say, yes, I tested this and this is the behavior on this. 51 drones says he does not 'believe' dji broadcasts RID for unregistered sub250 drones but has not tested this on the mini 3/4. Alien Drones said, after that recent interview video with the FAA, that the FAA is not requiring this of manufacturers (that manufacturers must enforce RID broadcast even when it's not legally required as is the case for unregistered sub 250 gram drones flown recreationally). If the FAA did have this requirement then that would render the unregistered, sub 250 gram recreational exemption effectively non existent going forward as all sub 250 drones could be flown with extra weight and/or under 107. Would this not be the FAA acting beyond the authority of its published, final rule which puts in place this exemption? I have heard some say that since DJI does not know if the drone will be flown under 107, or over 250, they always have to broadcast RID. Two thoughts here: first, they certainly know if registration info has been entered and that is what RID is supposed to be tied to; second, is it really required, based on the published rule, of manufacturers to enforce the rules or merely to supply drone compliant products which does not mean they have to force RID broadcast when it is not required. I understand the tamper proof aspect, but is it really interpreted to mean RID broadcast must be 'turned on' even when not required, or does it mean for sub 250 drones that if you enter registration info you can not turn off RID? I have not heard anyone say explicitly that they have tested this with an unregistered (never been registered) mini 3 or mini 4 to see what the behavior is. 1) Do you have any info if this has actually been tested and what the results are? 2) If DJI is forcing broadcast of RID for unregistered mini 3/4, why? Is it really the case that the FAA is requiring this or are they doing this on their own?

Hello, to provide a correction for the battery information: the Mini 4 Pro and the Mini 3/3 Pro Pro batteries are compatible, but not identical in standard size. 4 batteries are 2590 mAh at 77.9g, and 3 batteries are 2453 mAh at 80.5g. The 251g weight observed was likely a measurement with the Mini 3 Pro battery inserted into a Mini 4 Pro, which puts it overweight. When inserted with the correct batteries, I have weighed my Mini 4 Pro at 249g even. The Plus battery is identical and not redesigned. 3850 mAh, 121g, total energy 28.4 Wh (up from the standard 18.96 Wh 4 series battery and 18.1 Wh 3 series battery). The drop in flight time is mostly due to increased onboard processing, as well as slightly different flight dynamics and sensors. By the way, the aircraft, like other DJI craft, broadcasts Remote ID even when it is underweight. Buyers looking to turn off Remote ID should look outside the DJI ecosystem or at older DJI drones before the introduction of Remote ID across the board.

We have not tried live streaming. The Mini 3 filters do NOT work on the 4, I mention that in the video. Very petty of DJI, the mount is ever so slightly different.

If you want to use M3P batteries on M4P just be aware that M3P battery is slightly heavier so with them M4P gets above 250g (around 253-255g).

The only remotes compatible with the Mini 4 Pro are the RC2 and RCN2. Whatever remote you are using with the Mini 3 Pro is not compatible with the Mini 4 Pro. Not very many reasons to upgrade from the Mini 3 Pro anyway.

Thanks for the solid review. I have read that the Mini 4 Pro is limited to 120m (393 ft) to be compliant with the "C0" European classification. Obviously, here in the US if you have a part 107 license, you can go up to 400 ft AGL which can require the drone to be higher than 400 ft from the point of take-off. Thanks to your class I got all those questions correct on the part 107 exam :-). Can you confirm that the mini 4 pro max altitude is higher than 120m - I think the mini 3 pro allows up to 500m?

Max take-off altitude is 4000m. How high you go after take off is user set in the menu. Most people set it to 400ft to avoid having the drone fly higher than that, but you can adjust that on the fly or turn it off completely if you are going to manage your altitude manually, such as you might want to do if you're flying on the side of a mountain where the launch point altitude is irrelevant to where you're actually flying.

Great review, but I would have done more testing on the obstacle sensor. Distances to stop, backward movement, sideways between 90 and 270 degrees, etc. This would be what would convince me to upgrade from a Mini 2 or Mini 3.

The obstacle avoidance on the 4 is definitely better than on the 2 since there was none. And yes, it is better than the 3 as well since it's all around. We We show more of the APAS in our beginner's guide (that we also posted this morning). It worked sideways and backwards.

We mention that the small battery from from the 3 makes the drone 251g. We did not get a small Mini 4 battery.

As of Oct. 8th there is no DOC on the Mini 4 Pro. Doesn't that make it illegal to fly as a part 107 pilot? I remember seeing a recent interview with an FAA spokesman who basically said that only drones or modules with a published DOC are legal to fly if 250 grams or over.

Correct. The only way to make it legal is to put a module on top of it right now. There is apparently a paperwork hang up with the FAA for the Air 3 and Mini4 (and I’m sure other models).

@@PilotInstitute Thanks for the confirmation. I was considering a Mini 4 Pro, but as winter is about to set in, I will hold off and rely on my Mini 3 Pro and Air 2S for the duration. Maybe in the Spring.

251 g, because the mini three standard battery weighs nearly 3 g more than the mini Force on the battery even though they both fit

Personally I don’t think so. Unless you’re interested in a second camera angle.
