Tested the 212 Predator Ghost powered Azusa mini bike with 87 octane gas from 0 to 30 and then re-tested the bike with VP 110 octane to see if there was any difference in performance.

High octane fuel just allows you to run at a higher compression without damaging the motor. In japan the average fuel is about 110 octane because alot of their engine desings require high compression to get efficient power out of small motors.

You should just try E85. You need a 30% larger jet. Or get 5gal of E90. That race gas is only really gona help with a really high compression motor. If it runs with out detonation on 87 the fuel isn’t really gona help much. Smells better. Lol. But E85 yeilds about a 7-10% increase in HP on most engines. On the boosted applications we built it was more like 30% more HP.

Bro guess what I did… I was hunting and searching and praying on how I was gonna extend my swing arm from 14 weak little inches to something atleast 4-6” longer. Well I randomly landed on an EBay listing for 08-12 Kawasaki Ninja 250R Swing arm and pivot bolt and axle clips… everything. The swing arm looks exactly like mine but it’s 21” and same spec on everything else. It’s an amazing win for custom built bikes everywhere. No cutting and welding anything but the shock mounts to fit my set up.

Advance the timing on the 110 and see what happens. You will be surprised. Helps with high compression motors as well.

You want to burn the fuel in the engine your engine was designed for. If you put a high octane fuel in a low compression engine. You will lose power do to the slower burn rate of the higher octane fuel. You end up having to dramatically advance the timing to take advantage of it and this is just further increasing the inefficiency of the engine. The lower octane, and lower ignition timing you can run, the better. That means you have faster flame propagation pushing down on the piston at the point of most leverage against the crank throw. Hopefully I did a decent job of explaining it.

I've run the same experiment as this on my minibikes. I found that the higher compression and bigger duration cams really respond better to the 110 octane (leaded) vs the slightly modified engines with 265 cams. I didn't see any benefit using higher octane in the smaller modified engines myself as your experiment shows. Now I've used 104 Unleaded in my bigger modified engines and they really like the 104 vs 110 but I do get a gumming build up of the piston and cylinder head chamber from the unleaded 104.

What’s crazy is idk where I would even buy gas like that here in Oregon. Maybe a motorcycle shop or Motorsport shop but no gas stations here would have that. I have to put in Premium pump gas (93) and add octane booster to it to get it to 108.

Keep in mind that octane boosters list their octane gains in 0.1 octane point increments. For example, one that lists it'll raise your octane 12 points will actually raise it 1.2 points.

Im not an expert, but the fuel would benefit most with timing adjustment and would allow a higher compression engine. Cool video! Thanks for showing us that high octane is not more power, high octane ALLOWS for more power.

Question: I have removed a 5HP Briggs out of a tote gote and put in a Predator 212 with stage 1. With the extreme low gearing of the bike, is there a point where no more beneficial power will actually reach the ground? In other words an example of 10 HP versus 20 HP, as an extreme exaggeration example. I don’t intend to change any gearing, sprockets, pulleys etc.
@lucassarchet6712
@lucassarchet6712 7 ай бұрын
Ive had a few gotes and similar bikes. No real benefit in more power as they are built for torque. Now, if you change gearing than yes more power is a good thing for such a heavy bike.

High octane fuel is for high compression motor. Its the motor that desides the power not the gasoline. Low octane gas will destroy a high compression motor.

&3.50 a gallon? let me work this out... 3.785litres /$3.50= $0.925 per litre... compared to our $2.779 per litre... and "Americans" complain about the price of fuel? Race gas can't make more power without the engine being tuned for it. If you put an engine on a dyno and carefully worked up to the maximum possible output, and then did the same on race fuels, you'll be changing jets, possibly needles, fiddling with timing, and discovering more power, but it comes from the ability to tune it harder, not the fuel (and the benefit of lower emissions to create the exact same amount of power, like the EPA actually cares about saving the earth more than creating jobs for themselves!)
@D--5
@D--5 6 ай бұрын
Americans also drive a lot more than most Europeans (assuming you're from europe). My wife and I drive around 800 miles per week just going to and from work and it's not uncommon for us to drive over 2,000 miles when we take a trip so even though our gas is under $3/gal it still hits the wallet pretty hard.
