PSA: Guys, I'm aware that the takedown process is going to be lengthy. If I didn't wanna take them out, I would've never installed them. There's no regrets here, just happy that I chose a protective style that will keep my hands out of my hair for a while and at the same time promote growth.

It's the part of doing my hair that I just can't seem to master. Same with twisting/braiding the back. I don't know how to braid my hair from an upside down angle with my hands. The strands always get lost and confused. I know they say just practice, but how can I practice something that I don't even know the proper technique for? -_-

I've worn my hair like this when I was a teenager and several times as an adult (56 now). Absolutely love it. I've had to do them a little larger now because the takedown....yeah. To freshen the look and keep them in longer, I would redo the braids around the edges after three weeks.

I have mini braids in right now. I'm doing my own challenge of 12months of mini braids (maybe twists here and there). I actually twist the ends, so I kinda have both at the same time. I plan to just keep it that way because I get more stretch with the majority of it braided from the roots. I'm trying to retain as close to 6 inches this year if possible and thicken my edges. Wigs and braids with added hair pull out my edges, so I just want a low manipulation and low tension hairstyle. I plan to keep each set in at least 2 weeks at a time minimum, 1 month max.

Thank You, you just made my nite! for my 4a/b fine hair! Probably made my whole year! I been wearing mini twists to and was going with that as a protective style for the whole winter. But my hair is very coily even when in twists, regardless of using gel, so if I want to spray it with water or dare wash it and try to leave them in, NOT it unravels. I clicked on your video and the first minutes in just took two down and braided them and everything you said about the benefits I recognized immediately. I can tell this wont unravel if I want to daily moisturize them or even wash them in the shower! And I bet it wont be so prone to all the fly-aways in between I suffer with. I also love how much longer and stretched they look, full sebum coverage is my goal so TY!

I accidentally started doing mini braids lol and I love it. I wear them under my wig and it’s such a great protective style for me because I feel obligated to leave them in. When I do the usual cornrows I tend to take them out quickly, but because of the time it takes me to install and take down the mini braids, I end up leaving them in for 2-4 weeks, which makes it a great protective style for me.

I don't think I would have been able to complete my natural hair journey without these braids. My hair stayed in them for 98.5% of the time and my hair went from fully relaxed shoulder-length hair in 2018 May to completely natural hair at the same length in 2019 Dec. I didn't start wearing it out until this year which was intimidating and time-consuming to style and care for daily but I made it a goal to keep it out for a month, which I did before I put them back in braids. I didn't like that I had to keep my hands in it and pile on a lot of hair products to keep it neat, using a hairdryer for things to look good made me nervous, and twist outs were too unpredictable so braids are the best option for me. Just remember that your hair isn't a competition. If you don't like your hair being out, it doesn't have to be, wear it however you like. As long as it's healthy and flourishing do whatever fits your lifestyle. (Just remember to wash it and apply treatments weekly or bi-weekly! Oil can collect if you're not careful)

Its worth it. I keep this up.
