I understand for the U.S. models, Mini fits a collar on the rear head rest posts so one cannot lower the rear head rests. I guess that was done for liability/compliance reasons. Plus you'll get better rear visibility, especially with the top up. If I own one, I would try to remove that collar and just tell people in the back to raise their head rests.

That's exactly what I did with my 2011 MINI. the collars were relatively easy to break off without damaging anything, and you don't lose anything by losing them.

Do you think MINI will put an 8-speed auto in the Cooper S with the 2L turbo? It's in the Clubman which you tested earlier.

That fuel economy is horrible for such a small car with a turbo. The older models were more efficient and arguably faster. Less refined though.

JD Power ranks MINI very poorly in initial quality but middle of the road for dependability.

The newer models haven't done too well with reliability. The older ones weren't known for it either, but my 2011 Cooper S is at almost 30,000 miles and I only took it in once for something that went wrong. It was a rattle from the front shock towers over bumps and they fixed it under warranty. I'm easy on my car though, and it is low mileage, so ymmv.
