MINI COOPER FRONT SUBFRAME REFURBISHMENT!

I would recommend fitting a front under tray to it. The GP models had them fitted, but I bought an aftermarket one from eBay and modified it by cutting holes and fitting louvres to let cold air in. They are easy to fit, you just need to buy the pukka Mini fittings. Don't know why Mini didn't have these fitted as standard. I painted my subframe with chassis black enamel. More resistant to stone chips.

I owned a 59 reg R57 cooper S 6 years it was pampered but well used and always service at MINI. I was shocked when routing around under the front one day to find the subframe extensions had rotted out where the wheel arch liner is bolted to it. Now have an 15 plate R57 JCW, first thing I did when I got it was buy a few cans of dinitrol underseal and wax with the flexi extension nozzle. While you have the subframe out fill every internal cavity with this stuff, then when it’s back in the car all external surfaces. Did the front and back frames on my car while installed, a bit messy but well worth it. Should have been galvanised by BMW from new.

My mini just failed it's MOT on rear subframe rust. I'd done the front but didn't even think about the back.

You should Not paint over wheel bearing where rotor meets hub. Otherwise Great job. Every mini needs that 😃

Just had a subframe like this blasted and painted in 2 k black for £60 , and my lungs haven’t suffered from rust and paint fumes 🤔👍
