Debatable - but I wouldn't snitch. :-D They're not the fastest to accelerate by modern standards, but with that handling, you don't have to slow down much for corners, so you can keep your foot in the firewall where most cars would need you to back off a bit. :-)

To those who think a 12 inch rim is small...I still prefer the original 10 inch rims. A bit bumpier on rough roads, but less chance of damaging your sidewall. Shame about how much they flex in corners, though - but they still managed to handle bloody well. :-)

1959 Designed by Alec Isigonis 848cc later Cooper and then Cooper S 997cc 1080 then 1275cc this is all just from memory mind. Yes im old!

Don't forget the 998 used in later Coopers to replace the earlier 997 long stroke engine which was limited tuning wise. (the Cooper S used first the 1071, then the 1275 and the short stroke 970 which is the smoothest and highest revving but is the rarest). Minis were and are great fun

ok im real happy youve seen the light. i cant stand by and let the facts go un heard though. they first came out in 1959, not 69. they started off with an 850cc engine. in 1962, they realeased the first coopers and later they released the cooper S. biggest engine they were released with was the 1275. they did that in many forms but ultimately it came in single point and multi point injection from rover. there have been numerous recreatiosn over the years. one of the most notable tuning versions is probably the ERA turbos which i believe were released in the 90s. very desirable. tonnes of different kits available and id wager one of the biggest aftermarket communities of any car. but then what can you expect after a car has been out for nearly 60 years.

From my humble and ignorant point of view ... I am in agreement with the technical, aesthetic and fuel saving benefits as far as the descriptions of this vehicle are concerned. However, I believe that the interior capacity has not been carefully studied, taking into account the minimum space used by the fenders in the passenger compartment, either on the driver's side or the passenger's side.
