MINI Cooper swap out chrome door handle

Ever wanted to swap out your chrome door handles on your F series MINI Cooper?! So have I!

Using the official instructions I got stuck at stage 2 undoing the bolts, I couldn't see them. Once you showed where they were the rest went smoothly and I'd recommend anyone to watch this video and do this themselves.

Love the rubber band trick, mine snapped so I used a hair tie which worked great, all an all the install was easy and thank you for the tutelage!

Great video, thanks for showing. I changed it on my MINI also in black. You show and explain it step by stept, and so I didn`t make a mistake. It looks very nice, and I did it also with the gas cap you expalin.

Thanks for sharing. Is it possible to remove the chrome piece from the rest of the handle after removing the handle? Also, can I just remove the chrome piece from the handle? You know, just like how it's possible to remove the chrome Gas cap from without removing the actual Gas cap.

I don't think you can successfully disassemble the door handle to remove the chrome but I've never tried....

thanks for all your helpful videos. i picked up a used 2017 and noticed one of the door handles led light isn't working. without taking the door handle off, i am able to see in there that the light plug is in fact connected, so i'm hoping it is just a burned out bulb and not an electrical malfunction in the wiring. do you know if by chance you can just replace the bulb in the handles? or do i need to basically buy a whole new door handle?

I think it's a whole door handle replacement if I remember correctly..

@@TheMINIVlog yeah, i figured i would just have to replace the entire handle unit. was just wishful thinking that i could pop in a new bulb at the moment until i moved forward with swapping out all the chrome on my mini which i eventually wanted to do all at once. at least it now gives me an excuse to start with the handles for now (and most likely gas cap). thanks again for all your help!

Is there any point in this install where someone could mess up and the manual key/lock mechanism would no longer turn? I just picked up a new F56 I custom ordered, the black handles were port installed, and I went to use the manual key to lock the doors while going for a run at the park, and the key will not turn the lock at all. Interestingly the electronic door lock from the Fob does work though. I’m 2 hours from the MINI dealer, so trying to see if I can resolve this myself.

Hmmmm not that I can think of....but I'm not locksmith expert. I do know the barrels can be stiff to turn with such a little key...?

No I did not. Without that option I don't think it will work

I am not going to post the video of the other door. It's actually easier on the non-driver side since there is no key lock in the way so more room to work in there. I figured if I showed the harder door, then I would not need to show the easier one.

Hi, great video. My four piano black door handles (F55) have arrived. I don’t have comfort access or handle lights is there a chance the wiring is just taped to the inside of the door in preparation for these two options? Cheers, Howard

I looked and did not see it in there. I think it's a separate wiring harness installed during build....... I hope I am wrong but it doesn't appear that way. At least on mine.

How do you find out the method of disassemble parts? I'm trying to remove the passenger side dashboard trim cover for vinyl wrap but have absolutely no idea how. Also the OBD port is loose and making a rattling noise listening to music. The mini is a 2018 model.

Just lots and lots of googling and forums and sometimes, just trial and error. I have not found an all inclusive repair manual yet. I feel like you should be able to tighten up the bracket holding in the OBD port....?

It's a 5mm allen bolt rather than a torx. I misspoke in the video

Not necessary but will make your wrap a lot easier to apply

Pulling the interior lever didn’t help, and I didn’t have access to a strong rubber band so i took out the whole door card, it’s was a frustrating process but handles where wrapped at the end of the day
