Because it took the 4 of them to make KISS what it is. Ace was the much better guitarist no doubt. KISS is the marketing brand it is because of their history (and makeup and stage show), Frehley's Comet didn't have the record company support KISS did. And NONE of them individually were as strong going at it solo. Gene's album ASSHOLE was pretty awful and Peter's solo albums were not even close to a KISS thing.

Because Ace was too f#cked up on drugs; KISS needs Ace (the whole is more than the sum of the parts) and Ace needs KISS (my guess is that Gene & Paul did what they could to keep Ace's head clear whenever possible, and that worked to Ace's advantage even as bad blood it may have caused between them all). I'm an Ace fan, he was my fave within KISS and I have bought most all of his solo stuff. But Ace was not a good business dealer, which probably led to his record company's tepid support. Ace+drugs = bad. Ace's newer stuff seems to be great; but it's too little too late now.

only reason is a household name is because they had a reunion with the original four from 1996-2000.. and to this day they use those four images, that sound of the two members gone to sell tickets today. Before that kiss was dead almost except for the hardcore die hards who still followed them. Stupid kiss fans.

genes solo album was the highest charting of all the albums, in usa and other countries. it initially sold the most which obviously gave it the highest chart rankings. aces sold the most in the sound scan era, but before 1991, who knows what they sold... all we know for sure, genes charted higher

Why can't Paul and Gene just be men about it and admit that Ace's solo album was the most successful? Paul's solo album and Ace's were both fantastic, better as whole albums than many KISS whole albums. Each of their album's only has one to two less than great songs (still not duds either, though) whereas Gene and Peter's albums are the exact opposite with only diehards saying otherwise. Peter's "Don't You Let Me Down" and "Easy Thing" and Gene's "Radioactive" are fun songs but exceptions.

When the Hot in the Shade record came out Paul could have put the makeup back on and it would have worked as he looks hot here. Gene would have had to work at it though Gene looks fat and bloated and he doesn't look like he wanted to put the makeup on at all.
