I'm excited to get the Instax Evo I pre-ordered with B&H. It looks like a great instant camera with a lot of fun features. I think a lot of photographers miss the point of this camera. It's not for doing a professional photo shoot with a model or landscapes meant to sell prints of. It's meant to be fun, in-the-moment and allow for some creativity. I bought one because I want to take myself out of "photographer mode" and just enjoy taking photos with some interesting effects and the instant gratification of having a print. Quick question: I might have missed you mentioning this, but it looked like there were yellow streaks across the bottom left of several photos in your video. Do you know why that was?
@RobertHamm

Thanks for your comment. I agree that this camera is aimed at fun and creativity. I really like this camera. It has grown on me quite a bit. I can't think of it as just a fun point and shoot, but I also recognize that it isn't a big boy like my other cameras. I can see a future where Fujifilm updates the gripe I have with the EVO the sensor/lens combo. The digital images are horrible for archiving. I would not use this camera as the only camera to document life events because of the sensor and lens. Had Fujifilm thought about that more seriously, they would have included a better sensor and lens combo. I wish they had because if you want an archival quality image, you will need to use a cellphone at the very least. In fact, I use my cellphone daily to chronicle my life. I believe most people do as well. I never argue about image quality with cell phones. They got good enough for me around the time of the Fujifilm x100f (about 3 years ago). That's when I stopped taking my x100f with me everywhere to archive my life. Before that it was the x100s or Xpro 1. The Fujifilm has better quality than a cell phone, but that's when the cellphone was good enough for me. I generally use a Note and from time to time, an iphone pro max. Currently I use the Fold 2. I wish the EVO had a sensor good enough that I didn't need to take a picture on the Evo for an instant print AND have to use my phone for an archival digital image. It would have been nice for the EVO to do it all. I think a generation 2 will move toward that end. It seems like the fhbrid cameras are on an 18month cycle, so we may know for sure in a year or so. The yellow lines you saw were from the lens effect, "light leak". It may not have shown them well in the video. But I really like the light leak effect when paired with the blue film effect. On a bright day at the beach, that makes for a nice pairing and really showcases the yellow of a scene. Don't use that combination when there is a lot of greenery in the frame. The blue filter will turn the greens slightly blue/reddish. No fun. Let me know how it goes when you get yours. Cheers.

@@RobertHamm Any updated version with a better sensor/lens would great. I think you're right on the cellphone if you want quality digital photos, but it's a nice option that you can use the Mini Evo to print out cellphone photos. I was watching another video and realized what the yellow was when they were scrolling through the effects options. Light leak looks like a fun one, and now I can see why the yellow was there.

Hi! Does the double exposure work like in the mini 90 or other analog camaras?
@RobertHamm
@RobertHamm Жыл бұрын
No, you can see an overlay of the image on the screen before you take the second image. In this respect you will see the final image before you print and choose if you want to print it or now. The EVO is a digital camera with an Instax printer built in. You could do the exact same double exposure process on any of the Fujifilm cameras and print using any of the Fujifilm printers.

I have an instax wide printer. I understand the advantage of having an only package (camera and printer) but leaving that aside… do you think that if one already has the printer, is there any advantage of getting this camera instead of just shooting with my X70, and then print on the instax printer?
@RobertHamm
@RobertHamm Жыл бұрын
Adding the Evo to your gear will bring you a lot of fun and happiness. I like using the camera. It will not be an upgrade in image quality over what you already use. I will assume that you archive the x70 images on a computer and may go back to those images for full size prints or other uses ar some point in time. This is where the weakness of the sensor in the Evo will be revealed. The Evo makes great looking Instax Mini prints. It's fun, easy to use, and works great in medium to brightly lit environments. However, the sensor makes bad disital files. The images are compressed and show a lot of grain in lower light conditions. Think of an iPhone 5 image quality. My advice: Get it and enjoy using it for events and occasions that are more casual in use case. Think of it as an instant camera only with the unique ability to reprint images. Always remember to take the most important images with a camera better suited for archiving, like using a modern day flagship cell phone camera. Just don't rely on the Evo for archiving your images. Your X70 is a much much much better camera than the Evo. Cheers.

@@RobertHamm now that’s an answer! Thank you so much for your time!!!! I get it. I think the evo can be seen as a tweakable “analog” camera because of its digital functions than a digital camera that can print. Perfectly understood. I definitely want it. !! Will get one eventually.

Would you recommend instax mini Evo? I am little bit concerned about battery life because I was reading that after 300 times charging of the battery you can literally throw it into garbage. How many shots you can take with one fully charged battery? Thanks in advance. Any advice would be helpful. Thank you for amazing video!!
@RobertHamm
@RobertHamm Жыл бұрын
I've made about 20 videos on the camera. Check out my latest video "everything you need to know about the Mini EVO ". What you've heard about the battery, or at least the way you stated it here, is not accurate. The battery is internal, and will someday die, but it will last for years, just like the battery in most cellphones. It's a lithium polymer, and likely can be recharged over a thousand times according to that battery technology. It certainly will not stop working after 300 charges. 10 years ago, 300 charges was when the lithium battery technology was good enough to still provide 80% of a complete charge. That's basically one year straight of complete battery drains and you've still got 80% of the original capacity. No one will ever use the camera that much that fast. And what's better is that as liPo Battey technology has improved over the years that 80% figure is much higher. Generally, liPo batteries have an expected service life of 3-5 years before showing noticable battery life degradation at normal use. How long do I think the battery will last before noticing any issues, at least 3 years. I've used Fujifilm batteries for years, I'm sure the battery they are using is one of the same batteries that are used in their printer and analog Instax cameras (mini 90). Those batteries have been going strong for thousands of images and hundreds of recharges. If I were to guess, I would think that Fujifilm planned for a five year battery life with a planned camera obsolescence at 2 to 3 years. By that time, they will come out with a other camera that will be better and people will upgrade. But just because the camera is used a lot doesn't mean that it will just stop working after 300 charges. It will continue to work with the tuntime decreasing after hundreds of charges until someday it stops working without being plugged into a power back. At that time you can buy another camera or look to sources like IFixIt for a guide and parts to replace the battery. Cheers.

Oh, I forgot to mention the shots per battery. This number varies greatly based on shooting verses printing. Fujifilm says you can get 100 prints per charge. That's pretty standard for the batteries they use in their other printers and Instax cameras (the ones that have proprietary removable rechargeable batteries). I have found that print number to be pretty accurate. But if you're just shooting, not printing, then the battery can last for several days worth of image capture. My family was in town recently. I printed 30 images and took about 150 images while they were in town. I also used the camera to delete images that I didn't like, crop, and adjust other images. I also used the app to remote captire and share some images. I did all of that over about 5 days on one battery charge. I would consider that heavy use. It's a great instax camera.. it's not a great digital camera.. but that's another story. For what it does, it does it better than any other Fujifilm Instax mini camera in my opinion.

I dont think its underrated, I just think it doesnt fill a need. Analog shooters arent interested in shooting digital and if youre going to shoot digital, might as well use a better camera and just transfer them. My iPhone 13 Pro takes way better photos than this does. I was also very disappointed by the filters on it. Ive had point and shoot Fujis that did a better job with filters. Having said that, its selling pretty well in Japan, so thats good for the Instax line. Glad you are liking yours.
@RobertHamm
@RobertHamm 2 жыл бұрын
I agree, as a digital camera it's horrible. But it's not trying to be a digital camera. It's trying to be an instant camera with upgraded features. It gets that mostly right. I also agree that the images don't have that analog look. That's not because you can see pixels or anything, it's because it's not an analog exposure through a larger lens of an image on film. That process is a look all to itself. But, as an Instax camera that I can print just the images I want without having to mess with using a different digital camera. Sync to my phone, And then print from my phone: well the Evo does a fantastic job. This is definitely a niche camera. Your iPhone does take better digital digital images. But how many people want you to take their picture when they see you take a photo with an iPhone? None. For me, that's where this camera shines. It gets people excited. They want to interact. It's an experience. Experiences book brides, make new contacts for portrait bookings, and are an expensive upgrade to any package. I charge $100 upgrade for an Instax album of 10 prints. It works for me. Other than all that, although your iPhone and my Fold, take better digital images, this camera takes good enough images in most situations and takes excellent images on the best lighting conditions. Like the picture of the artist form the video. Those are great images. They were captured with filters turned on and turned out great. I ahve found several combinations of filters that I like, and it's working well so far. At the same time I say all that about the camera. I completely understand your point, too. There is a reason to shoot real analog film. I shoot film often on my OM-4 and develop and scan it at my house. I love the process of all that. But I prefer to shoot instant when I can because it's quicker than 35mm film. But sometimes I just want the images from !y Oly, and that means the whole process. So it's all preferences. Good conversation we have had about all this over the videos. Cheers.

Maybe it wouldn’t be underrated if “professional” photographers (like yourself) would stop reviewing it like it’s a professional camera or comparing it to a professional digital camera when that’s not what it is or what it was advertised to be. saying it not great or making multiple videos on all the things you hate about it. . It’s not supposed to be professional quality, it’s for fun, it’s for sharing, and it’s pretty cool.

It sounds like you got your feelings hurt over my video. When you start talking about feelings instead of facts, you have a problem. I can review anything I want - I bought the camera! To think that after using it I would not have things I like and dislike about the camera is silly. Did you not see the five things I love about the camera video? I suppose not. Instead of criticizing, why don't you actually do something? Why don't you make a video about the camera, and sending me the link so that I can see it. Maybe you should add to the conversation instead of crying about it.
@ariannasearway

You’re the one that brought up feelings not me.. so does that mean you’re the one with the problem? Your videos are difficult to watch as all you do is complain about the camera or saying you wish it was like X,Y &Z, I wish it did this, I wish it did that. I hate all these things about it then you end the video with how much you love it and that it’s worth purchasing. 😂 Make up your mind…

I make reviews about cameras I use and call out their strengths and weaknesses. Some people cry about it. Some people don't. As for the camera, since you didn't seem to understand the video, let me say it clearly: The EVO is a horrible digital camera. It is a good instant camera. It is a great Hybrid camera. These are three different categories of use, and so each one has a different statement. Go ahead and use that camera as your only camera to document your families life. If it's so great at being a camera, then don't use another camera ever again. You won't do that because the digital images it takes are crap. They are gatrbage. That's why it's a horrible digital camera. Are your feelings in the way because you like the little pictures a it prints? Well? I would agree that the prints are good. that's why its a great hybrid camera. Because the prints are good. It's also why its only a good instant camera... because if you want an instant camera that produces better analog prints then you could get a mini 11 or mini 90 and have better analog prints. Do you know that there is a difference between analog instax cameras and hybrid instax cameras? That's the comparision with the EVO. That's the whole point of the Hybrid line. You need that context and perspective to understand the video. Considering your original comment and the follow up, you are probably unaware of the difference. Something you should have been aware of before commenting in the first place. Something about speaking before thinking.. Have you used your cellphone to make a video about the camera like I suggested in my first reply? Have you shown how to use it, or bought anouther camera to compare it to? If you haven't, then i suggest at least borrowing a camera so you can do so. You would learn a lot about the camera, and others, by doing it. then your comments might be better informaed, on topic, and impactful. If you have, please post the video link here. I would llike to see it.
