Thanks so much for this video! I diy'd a square pillow form from an old bed pillow. Took a little doing learning the pleats. However, I was quite surprised when i turned it right side out. I love it! I also watched another one of your videos for a zipper with a flap and used that for my closure with an upcycled old zipper. I'm new to your channel and glad I happened upon it🙃🪡🧵

I don't know how I did this but I accidentally made corners like this trying to fold them in and make it roughly looking and it turned out like this and they were pulling towards the front I thought something was wrong with it lol. Needless to say I made it work I actually put corners over framed picture because I had made a patchwork house on the front of my pillow.;)

I can’t tell you how long I’ve been looking for a tutorial on how to make these! Thank you! If you’re taking suggestions for new videos, one showing how to attach more than on type of trim on a pillow would be wonderful. For instance, if you wanted a welt in front on the flange. Thank you again, I can’t wait to make one of these! Right now, I’m working on a bolster from one of your other videos. It’s turning out so well! Thank you so much!
@ASquarePillowIsntSquare2 жыл бұрын
So glad the videos are helping you!! As far as you question goes, it’s as easy as first applying your welt to the front of the pillow as you normally would, then apply the flange on top of that as a second layer exactly as you would if there wasn’t welt. But I’ll add it to the growing list of ideas for new videos!

@@ASquarePillowIsntSquare I would also like a video on welt plus second layer, particularly where to put the invisible zipper.
@ASquarePillowIsntSquare Жыл бұрын
It’s super easy! Apply the welt first, just as you normally would, then apply the flange on top of the welt, just as if it was a single layer.

Could you also make these pillows with a fold in the back to insert the pillow insert in instead of a zipper or instead of sewing it closed I guess they call them envelope pillows.
@ASquarePillowIsntSquare3 ай бұрын
Yes, you can make an overlap closure, however zippers do provide the best result.

I LOVE your videos! I've watched this one twice now. Can you please tell me where/what the bottom solid fabric is? I've been looking for something similar but most of the linen samples I have are super thin and this looks much more substantial. Thank you! Cay

Love your tutorials, is the flange cut on the bias?
@ASquarePillowIsntSquare2 жыл бұрын
Nope. You can cut this lengthwise or crosswise.

I love your directions!!! Can you make a boxed throw pillow with flat flange trim. I really want to do that.
@ASquarePillowIsntSquare2 жыл бұрын
Hi there, thanks for your comment! To do this particular style on a boxed pillow would be quite unusual. In all my decades of sewing I’ve never had a request to make one! I’m not sure it would work very well, but I will be making a video soon on boxed pillows and cushions, so once you can make those you can put in any trim you want :)

Hi! I have a question: if I want to make a pillow flange as well as cording, how is this done? Should I see cording and flange pieces together then add to pillow fabric? Thank you! Love your tutorials!!
@ASquarePillowIsntSquare Жыл бұрын
Hi! The easiest way is to apply the cord first, then apply the flange on top of that, lining up your 1/2 seam allowances. Just baste the flange onto the corded side. Then put the back on :)

My customer is good with using corner pleats so I’m going to go by this video. I’m using a stretchy velvet fabric for the flange. My question is should I use a flat cording to help stiffen up the flange? And if I do, do you think the pleats will work out okay? Thanks for any tips!
@ASquarePillowIsntSquare Жыл бұрын
With such a small flange you should not need a stiffener. It should work fine although I’ve never used a stretch fabric myself.

Hi Nancy! Thankyou so much for your video on how to sew a flange with corner pleats! Soooo helpful! I did have one question if you have time to give your advice…..in the video, the pillow you made is 25” square. The ones I’m making will be 18” square. Do you suggest still making the same size flange and corner pleats….Like the 3” wide strips with the 4” sections for pleats? Or do you think I should go smaller for smaller pillows? I’m so scared I’m gunna mess up my beautiful fabric haha!
@ASquarePillowIsntSquare Жыл бұрын
That's a good question! You can make the flange a little smaller, which can look nice on smaller pillows. I have found if you go too small though, the pleats won't stand up...they tend to fold toward the front or back and not stand up right. I'd say don't make them any smaller than 3/4" finished (2" cut or a little more if it's a thicker fabric) and you'll be fine :)

Thankyou!! Can’t wait to get started on it this afternoon!!

Thank you for making this tutorial! I'm so glad I found your Chanel. I really like both fabrics you used to make this pillow. Could you tell me the names of the fabrics? Also, what kind of pillow did you use? It looks like down, but seems more luxurious than others I have seen.
@ASquarePillowIsntSquare2 жыл бұрын
Glad you’re enjoying my channel! The inserts were a feather/down blend. They look so full primarily because the covers were made nice and snug. I made a video you can check out about how to measure for a pillow cover :) Not sure about the fabrics because my client provided them.

Did you finish/secure the ends of zipper?

I never do. You can watch my tutorial on zipper installation, however if a zipper is cut to the right length and installed currently there is no need to do anything to the ends of the zipper tape.

I have a wholesale account with a distributor, and until recently I had a great local home dec fabric outlet store that stocked several sizes. I will admit it's getting a lot harder as my local sources are closing one by one!

Sometimes there isn’t one! If you really can’t tell then it doesn’t matter, but I’d still pick a side and be consistent with what you’ve chosen as the “right” side :)
