Mini Get Home Bag. Maxpedition Fatty Organizer.

My mini get home bag that stays in my work backpack. A small amount of gear that I will always have nearby if I can't get to my vehicle to retrieve my full get home bag. This has the bare essentials to get me about 20 miles in the New York cold. Built in the Maxpedition Fatty organizer.
Don't be too hard on me for the quality. Just bought my first MacBook and I'm slowly learning to use it. Also, none of my peripherals worked with it because they are all usb A and this thing is all usb C and thunderbolt.

Enjoyed the video. To all of the maxpedition organizer enthusiasts- you can slip zip ties through the small open slot where the stitching ends on the rim of the organizer. When the organizer is open, there’s one tiny slot near the bottom zipper pull. The other slot is on the right side top left corner. You simply fish the zip tie through each slot. Makes for more space. I have the micro, mini, EDC and fatty sized organizers. I use this method with a few various sizes of zip ties in all of my organizers. The larger ones you showed in your video fit perfect in the fatty. I have mini ones in the micro slots. Learned this from someone else on KZbin years ago. Hope this comes in handy. Lots of great space saving, helpful and unique tricks out there! Cheers!

Good kit! You have to be able to prevent or fix the blisters you’ll have by 10 miles of walking. Though you have a wallet, you should have a dedicated emergency cash in this kit. Trail mix, jerky and a packet of Emergen-C drink mix will give you a boost for the 20 mile walk home. Also add body/hand warmer for the rough weather.

very cool video. I recommend changing out the aquamira filter to a 0.1 micron filter. One you can use is called the hydroblu That spelt Blu and not blue. good job!

Not bad. Just some observations you may or may not care for. Fire: Maybe put a rubber band around the lighter to keep the button from being pressed accidentally in the kit losing fuel. Remove the child safety from the lighter so it's easier to use in the cold. Maybe add a micro ferro rod. Ditch the dental pads for the procamptek for same size, or melt some Vaseline and dip them partially in it. Change your matches to stormproof or dip them in melted wax to give them water resistance. Booboo kit: Ditch most of the bandaid for luko tape and moleskin. Add heavier duty safety pin. For the light and battery I use energizer ultimate lithium. They seem to be the best and least effected by cold. Thoughts on adding the following: Kevlar thread Small section of a hacksaw blade Micro signal mirror Button compass (general direction) Maybe make a "Survival/sere" patch and use in place of morale patch. I'd probably ditch the multitool since you'll have one on you. Good vid.

Also add a zip lock bag. If you use the filter in cold weather or it gets below freezing, put the filter in the bag and keep it close to your body to keep it from freezing the filter.

For a 20 mile walk that's about perfect. The only things that may help on a long walk would be Moleskin for blisters. I may add some hard candy or a cliff bar or some sort of food bar for energy. JHMO, GREAT video though!

Not a bad kit. Only possible shortfall I can see is .some sort of compass. Even the simple button type? Even in my local urban setting it’s easy to get momentarily turned around. Imagine it’s night or foggy in a blackout, either a local outage or some kind of EMP event? .

I'd add: a slim recharging battery for the phone; a written list of pertinent phone numbers and addresses for Police, Fire, Hospital, Taxi, Friends, AAA, etc; a separate wad of cash in bills of each denomination. , a few dollars in coins. I might even carry a separate, pre-paid credit card with some money in the account. Maybe a compass.

It's not MOLLE, it's PALS. Molle has the attatchment strap and webbing loops or ladders attatched PALS or Pouch Attatchment Ladder System only has the webbing loop ladders, you must supply your own attatchment method. A minor but important detail when considering your pouch choice. Also, you should always use lithium batteries in led flashlights, especially high output ones for optimal performance. I find that a 5" or 5 1/2" pair of hemostats and a small sewing kit with a sail needle and eiher braided fishing line or 50# kevlar line is a useful addition

Nice kit. Just a few observations. Between the EDC stuff and the kit, you've got 2 multi-tools , a swiss army knife , and a pocket knife. That seems like a bit much. Keeping in mind you're going 20 miles on this kit, I'm not sure you'd need anything but the pocket knife. You've got a lot of fire making stuff. I get the need for fire but 20 miles is less than 24 hours and if you need to build a fire at all, you'll only need to do it once. I'm assuming you may need a fire for heat if you need to overnight it but I'd get some good storm matches (UCO), presoak the cotton tinder in melted vaseline and call it good. I'd dump the water filter since you have aquatabs , keep a good sturdy water bottle close by, and pack a couple of coffee filters for filtering water before you treat it. As someone else here suggested, a sillcock key (Amazon $6) will turn on water spigots on businesses that don't normally have handles, which is where your water bottle comes in handy. The water bag is good in theory but once you fill it, it's hard to carry and harder to drink out of. I'm not sure what you'd be using the gorilla tape, paracord, and zip ties for unless you plan on building some kind of shelter out of the space blanket. Some kind of calories, especially in the cold, would be a good idea. Some hard candies and a couple of millenium bars will go a long way and don't take up much space. Just some things to think about now that I've written a book in the comments, lol.

Show people how kits can evolve, Hell I'm always changing mine, and that you don't always need tons of stuff if the plan is to keep moving and, well, get home. If I had to leave work without my car I'd need to cover about 40 miles of AZ desert so my kit, and my plan - that's important, has to deal with very different circumstances. I see a lot of videos on what you should have but nothing really on the things to consider before you start buying stuff.

Mine has medical supplies like blood stopper powder.. water purification and a water bag to carry water it has of course fire starting and small Ferro rod and mini bic .. it has a lightweight poncho and a mylar blanket all packed in a small kit that's actually smaller than the one that this video uses

If I had gone with a Mylar blanket rather than the SOL blanket and if I ditched the bandanna, I could definitely have made this smaller. But I’m not a big fan of the flimsy Mylar and that bandanna has a million uses. I considered a ferro rod as well but in all my years playing in the woods, I think I’ve realistically used one to start a fire only a few times. I opted for matches and the lighter. Clotting powder is a great idea. Something that I need to add. I have zero first aid training so I refuse to carry a trauma kit or stuff that I don’t know how to use. So, clotting powder would be perfect for someone like me. Something good enough to stop the bleeding until I can find someone that knows how to properly treat the wound 👍

I added a flashlight that uses cr123a's batts. They last a very long time, are brighter, and easier to store without fear of leakage.

I generally stick with AAA flashlights simply because AAA batteries are so common. Recently though I’ve been switching more to rechargeable. It’s nice to be able to carry a small power bank that can recharge a flashlight several times. Thanks for watching!
