» Mini Goose In The Drink... :(

Today I misjudged my altitude and put the Mini Goode into the drink!!! The water was like a mirror and I didn't realize just how low I was flying. When I got home, I stripped the plane down, cleaned all the electronic components and put them in rice. The airframe will be OK with some repair work, just hoping to salvage some of the other expensive bits.

Crazy. The reflection made it look like it was twice the altitude than it actually was. We all would have made the same mistake and at least it happened close to the bank and not out in the middle of the reservoir. Nice channel bud.

Done use rice! Use silica desiccant packets! Also set all electronics on top of a dehumidifier for 24hrs, will dry them out really well! Sorry about you bad luck on that flight, but good luck in the future!

Sorry to see this happen. Glad I came across thie video. Did not know smooth glassy water surface could be such hard to judge for pilots! Hope it flies again!

You be surprised how resilient these components are. Even those battery. I've went into the drink many times with my planes and quads and only once did I lose anything and that was an esc. Camera, vtx, FC , motors all survived. I use industrial grade alcohol which is 99.8% to rinse all the components best I can and toss into a toot with rice and silicone packs that always seems to do the trick. I'm still flying an AR wing that's went in the drink at least three times. Lol.

Goods news, most of it is OK. ESCs were damaged and the FPV camera is playing up but everything else survived.

Pikes Creek? Water with that glassy a surface is difficult to judge in person, let alone FPV. Lucky those packs didnt get saturated, the Goose would be in much smaller peices. Been thinking about LiFePO4 instead of LiPo, for the safety.

makes one think about doing those things with a flying boat instead.. so at least it would bounce off the water instead. even if you don't fly it off the water, would be good. I wonder if there is a shape you could give the fusealge, to help it not stick on the water?? a step perhaps?

I think the wing actually hit first then spun it into the water. No design would have helped in that situation unfortunately.

Full size float plane pilots hate glassy smooth conditions, and FPV is much harder in my opinion. Shame, gona cost.🙁

Oh snap. I was just watching one of your other videos and raising a few questions. Then I saw this. In the other video I was looking at the tail and seeing the movement on the elevators and thinking that's a bit of movement. Not much but a bit. Torque, you know. I fly my Disco and have crashed it a few times and I think that was due to latency. I wonder if that is what happened here.
