I was really impressed with the way you designed the motor mounting brackets as you went along. Lots of people do that, but you seem to have knack for it. Each part seemed well thought out and the end result came together perfectly. After the covers, what's next for the little lathe? Cheers, Craig

With the right anvil, I bet you could cut anything with that chisel! I guess the flywheel would be good for when you don't have the 5-inch chuck hanging on the spindle.

Hi : I suggest that you make sure that the motor completely stops before engaging the reverse , I have blown up few scr like that
@BenMitro
@BenMitro 5 жыл бұрын
should be able to put a load on the windings to achieve that. Trevor could wire it up with a new reversing switch that connects the load brake when switching from forward to reverse or vice versa. Just has to remember to stay on the brake position of the switch until the motor has slowed down enough.

Great video just like all your vids and just in time for me as the motor burnt out on mine You seem to have a few machining tools and I was wondering if you could make a mandrell for me as my lathe is not working . Where do you live so I can look you up?from Thomastown

Very nice build. Nice and compact. I like the mandrel for attaching the larger pulley. I have the same lathe and presently I'm working on my own motor upgrade. Looking forward to some updates on improved performance. One question though; where did you get the warning sticker for the wire wheel? I love it!

Hi Trevor. What are the pulley sizes (ratio)? And what speeds are you getting on the spindle now? I have acquired a FREE 3HP treadmill motor which I want to try. Already have the speed controller as per what you have done.

Why not use the stock speed controller? I have a 1.5HP treadmill motor connected to mine and the standard controller works fine for it. The standard controller uses PWM as well.
@TheAussieShed
@TheAussieShed 5 жыл бұрын
G'Day Mate, The Motor i'm using is 3.5HP, even with changing out the horse power resistor & adding an additional heatsink it still not even close to the controllers rating. The standard controller is SCR not PWM according to the Manufacturer. acim.nidec.com/drives/kbelectronics/-/media/kbelectronics/documents/dc-drives/data-sheets/kbic-0719.ashx?la=en. acim.nidec.com/drives/kbelectronics/-/media/kbelectronics/documents/dc-drives/manuals/kbic_manual.ashx?la=en. Additionally, one of the reasons for the whole motor swap was to get rid of the original controller, they are a known failure point for these Mini Lathes & really expensive to replace, same goes for the drive Belts, particularly here in Australia. Cheers Mate.

You have lost the ability to have material located through the spindle by using a mandrel shaft. Better idea to make a stub shaft from some thick wall tube that screws onto the end of the spindle.
@TheAussieShed
@TheAussieShed 5 жыл бұрын
Very True John, I dont think it will be an issue for me though . I did think of exactly that & its a great idea, Unfortunately the lathe was barely cobbled together to make the mandrel shaft at the time. Definitely something I may pursue in the future though. Cheers Mate.
